Family History Beginners Board / Re: Oakleigh Family Tree Help

Hi all,

Thank you so much for your responses and help with this, and for sharing the certificate. I will take a look closer look at Herbert Edward Mann now, even if unlikely it is worth a shot.

Herbert Edward Oakleigh married Christina Oakleigh and had four children according to what I have found:
Herbert William Oakleigh
1898–1963

Alexander Valentine Oakleigh
1904–1986

Leonard James Oakleigh
1906–1978

Hilda Dorothy Oakleigh
1913–1943 (reason unknown)

All of the records I have for Herbert are in the name Herbert Oakleigh or Herbert Edward Oakleigh, bar his marriage record which is Hubert. Unsure if this is relevant but I thought it worth mentioning!

Family History Beginners Board / Oakleigh Family Tree Help
« on: Sunday 23 February 25 12:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hello!

I am currently doing research on my partner's family tree. His last name is Oakleigh, which I have since realised there are very few of in the UK, leading me to believe this name has changed over time.

I have been successful enough to find up to his 2nd Great Grandfather:
Herbert Edward Oakleigh
B:abt 1873 Wick, Warwick, England
D:Oct 1919 Lambeth, London, England

Other than his marriage certificate from 1896, which states his father as "Richard Oakleigh (deceased)", I have absolutely no records for Herbert other than his time in Lambeth from 1901 onwards. There are no records of any siblings, a mother or his actual birth certificate.

I am very new to this and wondering what sort of steps I can now take. I can see there are a large amount of Oakleighs in Australia, however, they all seem to come from an area called Oakleigh and I just do not believe that they are related to our Herbert Edward Oakleigh.

I am aware the name could of been anything previous to Oakleigh, such as, Oak Lea, Ockley, Okeley, Oakley, etc. This is why I am struggling, I just can not find any information on how the name may have changed, it seems to be a very rare spelling for the time and area.

Any help is much appreciated, I understand I am new to this so apologies if I have not given enough information, but I am happy to share what I have if anyone thinks they may be able to help!

Thanks in advance.
