Thank you so much, I would not have got there; all the features have gone, including the canal.  I have a portion of the 1864 large scale map of Liverpool that just included this area. Tucked between the gas works and tannery the atmosphere must have been oppressive!

This was a long time ago so you have probably found these people, but I have both Woods and Blundell in Eccles Street, Liverpool in my family tree (well, my wife's actually).  Jane was my wife's 2x Great Grandmother - Born 20 Jan 1846 21 Eccles Street, D:8 Jul 1893 Liverpool, Eccles St.  She married Thomas J Woods and their daughter, Catherine married Thomas Lawson.

My question is: whereabouts was Eccles Street? It seemingly no longer exists, along with many other roads and streets in the poorer areas of Liverpool especially around Everton Brow, Netherfield Road et cetera.
