Ireland / Thomas McClelland 1907
« on: Wednesday 22 January 25 00:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone, I’ve been looking to find information on an ancestor but seem to be drawing a blank.

Thomas McClelland born 26/09/1907 I believe in Co Down, NI; to father Thomas McClelland born 1881, and mother Susan Murphy born 1881.

I know that Thomas (1907) had 3 siblings, Mary b.1906, Margaret b.1910, and John J b.1915-1997.

The only real information I have on Thomas is that he worked as an assistant motor mechanic for the RNLI and won bronze medals in 1942 for the rescue of 39 people from the Browning.

The 1911 census for King Street, Newcastle, Co Down lists him as a 3 year old.

He resigned from the RNLI on 15/08/1944.

Any help would be massively appreciated. There must be more to know and stories to tell, I just can’t find them!

Down / Re: McClelland family
« on: Friday 03 January 25 17:12 GMT (UK)  »
I’m also researching the McClelland family, from County Down.

I’ve come to a bit of a dead end on this side unfortunately for now, only going back as far as John J McClelland (1915-1997) who married Susanna Kearney (1915-1994).

I have Thomas McClelland down as a potential father for John but no other information on this side unfortunately.

I have several Henry Pledgers on my tree.

Born 11 Mar 1885, Wandsworth. Died Apr 1963, Essex.

Born 1830, Surrey. Died 1903 Wandsworth.

Born 10 Feb 1857, Surrey. Died 11 Mar 1942.

Born 1883, Wandsworth. Died 9 Jun 1917, France and Flanders.

Born around 1902, Middlesex. Died Jul 1974, Aylesbury.

I wonder if there’s a connection to any.

Travelling People / Pledger Surname - Possible Romany Heritage
« on: Sunday 29 December 24 17:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone!

Since starting my family tree research, I’ve been told by family that they believe we have some sort of Romany Gypsy heritage on my paternal side, through the surname Pledger.

I’ve gone as far back as 1830 on the direct Pledger line and can’t find any information to suggest this heritage so far, so just wondered if anyone may know the history of the surname or anything more on the family. The Pledgers I have on my tree so far all seem to be from around Surrey.

Other surnames through marriage to the Pledgers have been Tindall, Pritchard and Devonshire.

Thanks in advance :)
