Hi there,
I am in the same predicament, researching my ancestors Christopher and Anne Hanley, and cannot figure out "The Tap" or the residence noted for Christopher on their marriage cert.

I thought perhaps the residence for Christopher was maybe Baltrasna in Co Meath, and I found Hanley's living there on the 1901 census. But if feels like way too big of an assumption.
The Tap pub in Dublin Smithfield, wasn't named The Tap until around 1920s, so I don't think there is a connection there. However, there were a lot of residence around that part of Smithfield, that I did hear may potentially have been known as The Tap and this is where the pub chose its name, but again, its speculation and I have no concrete evidence to go by.

Did you get any further on your quest to uncover it?!
Louise

Hi all,

My Power line connection to the Ball family
Keep it rolling !!!!

Hi Familysearch2011,
Looks like we are related so, my great grandmother was Kate/Kathleen/ Catherine Hanley, whose father was Christopher Hanley. I have been struggling to find out further details about him, on the marriage record of his daughter Kate it has been really hard to decipher where their residence was, it lead me to assume it was Balstrana in Co. Meath, but I have never been fully sure as the writing is so tricky to read. I think Anne Fulton was his wife. I have gone down a few rabbit holes, but I could never cross check it against anything.
I was lucky enough to meet Kate Ball (Nee Hanley) as a really young child in her final days, the only great grandparent I have ever met.

I am related to James Ball. He was my grandfather's first cousin. My grandfather, Thomas Mc Donnell, as a young man lived in Millbourne Ave. His father - Patrick was the brother of Sarah the mother of James Ball.

Hi AnnMarie,
During my research on James and Sarah Ball (Nee McDonnell), I noted that Patrick's wife Mary also lived in the same building in Drishogue, Millbourne, and later living in 10 Millbourne Ave. I had guessed that perhaps Sarah and Mary were sister in-laws! I found Patrick's death record online. You probably already found this information, but Patrick's parents were Jacobus and Sarah Mc Donnell (nee Moore) and they also had another daughter called Maria. They were originally from Celbridge, but seemed to move to Dublin in the 1830/40s and I think lived in 17 Lwr Sherrard Street (address at marriage cert of Sarah and Maria) but on Patrick McDonnell's marriage cert is notes his address at Green Street. He was a police constable. I never found James/Jacobus McDonnell's death record, but found the death record of Sarah McDonnell (Patrick's mother) who died in Millbourne Avenue, and James Ball was present at her death. Hope this helps!

@ourgang Thank you for the prompt to get three comments! I took a break from the research but am dipping my toe in again.
You mentioned another chat on Drumcondra Cemetery, I must look for that one too!

@zigshar and @MaryBall: Thank you for the comments and message! I am building up to three posts :)
It has been really interesting looking into the past. My great great Grandfather (James Ball, son of James and Sarah) remained in Millbourne Avenue for many years, moving only a few doors down from his parents. He was married in the same church as his parents James and Sarah, St Agathas in North Dublin. Their other brother Patrick Ball was a witness at their marriage.  He married Kate/ Catherine Hanley and they eventually moved to Synott Row in Phibsboro as their own family grew, and his place at death was St Benedicts Gardens, North Circular Road. @MaryBall my grandfather was named Christopher, perhaps after his uncle (Your grandfather).

@annmarie Brown: I have been looking into the McDonnell family too, I haven't gotten too far, but some comments on this tread have definitely assisted! I am researching Sarah McDonnell (my great great grandmother) who married James Ball in 1875. Her father was Jacobus McDonnell (noted on marriage cert as alive in 1875) with occupation as land servant/ Herd/ land stewart. Jacobus was married to Sarah McDonnell (Nee Moore) and their address from the church record of their daughter was "Celbridge". It is my understanding they lived at 17 Lwr Sherrard Street, Dublin around 1840s (as this address was given at the time of Sarah's marriage to James, and also the address given of her sister Maria at her marriage around the same time). I cannot find marriage or death records for Jacobus/ James McDonnell, however I found Sarah McDonnell (his wife) died in 1894 and her son in law James Ball was present at her death in 9 Millbourne Avenue. Hope this helps!

Hi there,
Very new to this site and how to use it. But I am a Ball whose grandparents, great grandparents and great grandparents all hailed from Drumcondra. My great great grandparents were James and Sarah Ball of Millbourne Avenue, and my great grandfather (their son James) also lived in Millbourne Avenue with his wife Kate. Working my way through all available sites for information, but interested to see if there are any connections with the other Balls on this site. Thanks.
