Interesting that you are researching Flamborough,  My side of the family are from Flamborough, the name is CROSS.  I will check at home (do not have internet am at the library) and see if any of the names you mention come up.  A connection with Flamborough would be quite scary.

Regards

The Cross family were based in Flamborough and some moved to Bridlington and Hull, and other nearby spots.  They are easy to trace due to the tradition in Flamborough of giving males their mother's maiden name as a second name.  The other names that have cropped up are Cammish, Emmerson, Tanton and a few others.  The name Watefall has not appeared nor has Lucy as a family name.  Although they were methodists they all seem to be buried in the C of E churchyard - ST Oswald's at Flamborough, St Oswald was a northern saint King of Northumbria, I thought he would be connected to the sea but seems not.  Most of the families in Flamborough were fishermen or farmers.

Thanks for 1881 census info on tom Batty.  I have traced him this far and the appearance of the name Henrietta makes me think he is the right one. I cannot find anything for him before 1881 though, I suppose he could have been elsewhere 1871 but would have expected to find him 1861.  Thanks again.

The Cross family have been in Flamborough, E. Yorks since the 1600s.  They were primitive methodists.

Grandmother was Florence Buckton thought to be from Darlington, lived in Hull as an adult and married Tom (Thomas) Batty of Hull.  Florence born about 1900 and Tom about 1850  (how's that for an older man then!).  Can find very little about either, Tom was a waterman.  Florence died about 1962 and Tom in the 1930s.  These were my mother's parents but she knows absolutely nothing about them, they appear to have had no other family.  I think Tom may have been married before to a woman called Henrietta.

I am researching the Woodmansey family, originally from Driffield/Langtoft.  Later members moved to Beverley forming this branch of the family. ::)
