Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Occupation

Thank you so much for looking at this. I cannot see the census record you refer to is attached but you are right that these are not the easiest people to trace. Indeed, a few of us have been trying for 25 years to track them down without success. I attach a document that summarises everything we know (not that much!). We cannot find the marriage of George Rogers to Susan Clark nor their birth or death certificates. We also only have potentially one census record in 1901. We are pretty well at the end of the line now so any insights or advice would be great.

Thank you - that explains a lot. I thought it was 'writer' but he was a painter in other records so this makes sense now.

Hello, I have a birth certificate and baptism record of a distant relative and am trying to determine the occupation of their father who is my great great grandfather. I have highlighted the relevant text in red on both documents. I have an idea but prefer not to lead the witness! Any help appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you Bookbox and GR2. That’s great. I will also post in the right place next time.

I have just realised that the answer to column 1 is 'Rogers' and Illegitimate' which makes sense. I can see that part of the answer to column 2 is Airdrie but I can't read the rest of the bottom two lines. Thanks again.

Hi,

I am stuck on a few lines on the birth certificate of my wife's great grandmother (record 558 in red on the attached birth certificate). I can't read the last two lines of text in columns 1 (Name and Surname) and column 2 (When and Where born). Can anybody help me? Many thanks, Nigel
