I've just had a read through the thread and have added some info on Familysearch - I have an interest in the Messenger surname, being a Stokenchurch Messenger (many times over  ;D) If any of you are still interested I have found a potential baptism record and father for Robert Messenger which I've added on Familysearch as a starting point. Baptism 12th April 1752 in Fyfield/Overton, Wiltshire with a father listed as Thomas Messenger. How does that sound?

Hi, have you got much further with Thomas and Hannah? They are my 3xgreat grandparents and I have been able to find out a bit more about them over time from the censuses in particular.

In 1841 Thomas lived with his parents William and Elizabeth (nee Molineux) in Stokenchurch but by 1851 he had left Stokenchurch to go into service in London - he's listed as a footman in the household of MP William Evans.

Meanwhile Hannah was born in 1833 to William Stanton and Jane nee Hares in West Bromwich. They were in West Bromwich in 1841 but in 1851 in Shenstone near Lichfield where I believe William was working for a large estate.

In 1855 they married in All Saints Church Spofforth - from the marriage certificate (from memory) it's possible to deduce that both William Stanton and Thomas Messenger were working at Rudding Park (now a hotel where I stayed once with my husband before I knew any of this!). William was a gamekeeper. In 1861 they were in Stokenchurch with 2 children and a servant and Thomas was I think working in chair making like the rest of the family. Hannah then died in 1871 and Thomas in 1873, I haven't seen their death certificates so not sure of the cause. They had 3 more children by this stage who seemed to be scattered to other households in the area as lodgers and servants in the following censuses.

If you look at Familysearch I and others have linked as many documents as possible and done a lot more of the tree (with any luck accurately!!). I have also got my DNA on Ancestry (and imported to gedmatch) but I haven't any definite links to other descendants of the Stantons so not clear whether it is all correct. I have lots of other Messenger ancestors though so that muddies the waters with Thomas' side of things. It would be great to know if you have your DNA anywhere and if we match or if that has yielded any clues for you.
