World War One / Percy Richard Thomas - Royal Field Artillery - Burial place?
« on: Sunday 17 November 24 21:30 GMT (UK)  »

Hi,

I am seeking help in trying to find the burial site of Percy Richard Thomas, Royal Field Artillery, regimental number 19760. He was born on the 26 Jan 1897 and Died 11 Feb 1917, aged 20.
His home address was 17 Park St, Cwmcarn, Monmouthshire. His parents were Richard & Annie Thomas. He was a Congregationalist. It is likely he died whilst at home. I have the usual sources e.g. Findagrave, Billiongraves and Ancestry but without any success. If anybody could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

regards,
Stuart Price

RN service records on Ancestry say he was born in Galway.
I can see the baptism records for at least two potential candidates, neither of whom had parents called Michael and Mary.

Dave,

Thanks for the additional info regarding Niland's birth place. I will go back to Ancestry and see, if using a wild card search, I can determine what happened to him.

regards,
Stuart

Welcome to Rootschat

The 1921 death reg supports a birthyear of 1870 but the John Niland with parents Michael & Mary in 1871 is shown as b 1866 Shropshire

Do you know who reported the 1921 death

Carole,

As far as I know it was a family member who reported the death.

Stuart.

Hi,

I am a research volunteer for the "In From the Cold Project" which is dedicated to discovering the burial locations of servicemen who died due to their military service but who are not yet commemorated by the CWGC. One such person is John Niland, RN service number: 01839. He died 9th July 21, aged 51. He lived and died at 2 Burrard Rd, London, E.16. His parents were Michael and Mary Niland. I have searched for his burial in parish records but did not find anything. If there are any members who could point me in the right direction as to where to find this information I would be very grateful.

regards,
Stuart Price
