The name Mary Lola McKay also appears on birth Certificate of her son Reginald and is signed Lola Smart.

I don't have the birth certificates of any of the Smart children  but the ones I refer to are on Findagrave. And yes they can be difficult to decipher!

Govt Gazette in NSW list Sheep brand marks and transfers: In 1891 there is a Lola McKay at The Oaks Forbes, who is the transferror and the receiver is Albert McKay.

In 1889 she is also listed as a sheep owner by the same name and address,

But Lola McKay married John Cameron as a minor in Dec 1888. So now I am thinking there may well be 2 Lola McKays.

Have to go now, but will continue this tomorrow.

Denise.

I hope I am not going to confuse everyone.

Firstly re NAA Record of Archibald Cameron. His Service No is 2388. Place of Birth: Bogan Gate NSW. He enlisted 4th May 1916. Father John Cameron is NOK at Kaludah. His contact details were later changed to W j Morris Rae St Forbes. ( That surname name rings a bell to but I'm not at home to check).

Re Marriage Certificate of Lola McKay and John Cameron in 1888. If Lola was underage  she was born 1867 or later. This birth date conflicts with the age of Lola McKay who was married to Arthur Smart, given her age recorded on her children's birth certificates, although varying, are
as follows: She is 29 on birth certificate of Elizabeth Smart, born 1900. She is 33 on Reginald Smarts birth certificate in 1908. This makes her birth year between 1871-1875.

Thankyou Sue for Florence Smarts birth certificate details.

Does anyone have the details that would be on John Cameron/ Lola Smart marriage Certificate?  Surely that would confirm where she is from and who her father was.

I have all the details of Lola McKay and Arthur Smart's children. Can we confirm in any way this was her second marriage?

Supposedly her first marriage was to John Cameron. I am yet to see this marriage certificate. However the Army Service records of one of their sons Archibald Cameron in 1916, states his mother had died. No date mentioned and no death record found to support this statement.

So I am questioning whether there are two Lola McKays - one with a father named Frederick Hugh McKay, the other with a father named Frederick William McKay!

Yes the Frederick McKay you are interested in was born 1834 to John McCoy and Mary Thomas. There is also Frederick Hugh Mckay who was born Launceston in 1835 to Hugh Rose McKay and Martha.

I mentioned the one born 1835 because I thought he might be the father mentioned on the wedding certificate of Lola McKay to John Cameron.

According to NAA records and enlistment papers 1916 of Archibald Cameron, son of John Cameron, his mother had died of sickness but no death date given. Of course this could be just an excuse to cover up she had left them!

Frederick Hugh McKay who married Anna Hislop in Victoria in 1860, appears to have had only 1 daughter who died at just 21 days old in 1864.

Was a witness named on the marriage certificate? This Frederick died 1883, so not him.

What other details were on this certificate? Everything is important no matter how trifle ot seems!
