Waterford / Re: Thomas Keane from Dungarvan

Many thanks, LH and Kiltaglassan!! Both are possible. This baby Thomas Keane may be my maternal great grandfather, whose daughter, my grandmother, was also named Margaret, as was my mother (her daughter).

His father was said to have survived the whaling accident, but developed a respiratory infection as a result, which led to comprised health and early death. There is a question mark over his occupation, which is listed as farmer. But he wouldn't have been able to continue whaling after his accident, and may have grown some food, as did most county folk.

Campbell is sometimes derived from MacCampbell or McCampbell, but Mackell seems a stretch. Good luck!

Waterford / Thomas Keane from Dungarvan

I am looking for information on Thomas Keane born in or near Dungarvan in 1867. The final 'E' seems to have dropped off the surname after he emmigrated to the US. He may have had a father who sadly died as the result of a whaling accident, after falling out of a small 'pilot boat'. Does this jog any memories? Thanks.

* To avoid any confusion, it may help to know that Mountainside Hospital (built in 1891) in Glen Ridge New Jersey USA was on the border of the neighboring town of Montclair, so that births may appear in one suburb and deaths in another, whereas they are in the same hospital. Best of luck.🍀
