World War Two / Re: "Does anyone else have Ancestors who where in WW2 DUNKIRK?".

My Father William Connell 152707 RASC was stationed in Metz, France at start of German Blitzkrieg 1940. They were cutoff from heading to Dunkirk, headed south on trains until they diverted east towards Switzerland. He was interned in Switzerland, Vichy France, Italian POW camp PG73, Lamsdorf Stalag 344 in Germany until he was in the Long March until end of war. It was a long 5 years of his life which as many others shared very little with our Family.

Sonia,

Are you still active on this website, based on all the posts about your Dad I believe my Dad William M Connell(RASC)and his mate George Burns(Jim Burns is his Son) traveled with your Dad from Dunkirk to Switzerland. The day your Dad entered Switzerland was the same our Dad's entrance date, the Swiss camps you mentioned were the same on my Dad's Swiss card. And the dates and camps in Vichy France are the same as our Dads, the escape from Fort de la Revere involved 58 men, our Dad's included. Unfortunately my Dad and Jim Burns Dad were recaptured, but very glad to know your Dad returned home successfully. We have pics from Switzerland and Vichy France your Dad may be in. Also, there is a permanent sign outside Fort de la Revere with all the September, 5 1943 escappes listed in French, your Dad's name is on the sign.....regards, Scott Connell
