Hi Garry, I am trying this as a last resort, but we are looking for a Duncan Stewart born 1795 who married a Janet Adams (still confirming whether she was married previously to Willson). In the 1841 Census Duncan is listed with his family as a Hawker as an occupation. We just don't know or are trying to find his parents.   We too also have Drummonds and McPhee's in our family.  In the 1851 census he is listed as being a yeast dealer.

Janet Adam was from Comrie, we thing that perhaps Duncan was too but can find no evidence.  There was a thought that his father and mother were Robert Stewart of Ardvolich and Mary Dochart but Y700DNA discounts this, we also have matches to the Livingstone family and I have found a Duncan Stewart born in 1795 to Mary McViccars and John Stewart, they had three children but Mary McViccars died and John went on and married Mary Livingstone from Clan Livingstone and had several children.  I have the names etc somewhere.  When I just couldn't seem to get anywhere I decided to do a search on the internet for Hawkers in Scotland and your post came up. The question I wanted to ask is if he was a Hawker in 1841 would this have necessarily been his occupation before he moved to Scotland.  He had children with Janet from 1824, their first a daughter Ann Stewart who married an Alfred Viccars.  They moved to Australia at the end of 1851 I think, and that is where I have lost Duncan, the family were there and it appears that he died there but I just can't find his death certificate.  If you wish to get in touch please do.  Regards Jeanette
