Hi all, there seems to be a lot of connections on this thread so am wondering if any of us have DNA tested? I have.  ;D
Anyone know of a GIBSON DNA thread?
Cheers Debbie

Hi Rosie,

I'm not really that much further ahead of you, but I think I do have Robert's father and mother, I think they are Robert Gibson & Janet Gibson [possibly cousins] they were married on the 9th March 1825 in Tranent, East Lothian. On the OPR it states that Robert Gibson Hawker in Tranent married Janet Gibson daughter of Alexander Gibson Hawker in Falkirk.
I cannot find Anne Gibson's [Renwick] death recorded anywhere? But I do know that Robert remarried in
1896, he married Jean Francis in Haddington, on the marriage certificate his parents names were given as Robert Gibson [Hawker] and Jean Gibson [ms. Gibson] so I  do think this is the same couple that were married in Tranent in 1825 as people with the name Janet often had their names shortened to Jane or Jean.
Robert died in Kirkaldy in 1917. His son Daniel registered his death and mistakenly gave Robert's mothers name as Mary Gibson.
My Grandmother also used to tell me off her and her sisters sitting in the back of her father James Gibson's horse and cart.  :)

Really! that's great!
Yes Robert did have a brother named Alexander. :)
How far back have you got with the Gibson's? If you would like some info [although you may have more than me] then please don't hesitate to ask.

England / Re: Henry Smith & Mary Godfrey.

I have both of John's marriage certificates, he was married twice , both times in Scotland, that is where I got the name of Henry and Mary [his mother and father]from, but I can't get anymore info on them, if England had a site like Scotland's people, then it would be easier for me, but I live in Scotland, and can't really get any info about birth's and death's and marriages from England, I can only really get Census information online, and that doesn't really tell much.

Going by John's death certificate, he was born in 1839 or thereabouts, he died in 1913 aged 74. In the 1891 Census, it said he was born in Gloucester, England.

I managed to find a Henry Smith [Police] aged 25 at an Inn on High Street, Kingsbridge, Wiltshire, in the 1841 Census. But he was alone no family with him, but I don't know if this would be the Henry Smith I'm looking for or not, strange why he was at an Inn, if it is him, where was his wife and child [or children]? :(
It said he was born in Wiltshire.

Thank you for your help on this.

Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone has any information about a Henry Smith he married a Mary Godfrey. Henry was born circa 1815 and on his son [John Smith's] death certificate it states that his occupation was a Policeman.
I'd be grateful for any information , thanks.

Hi Jean, I notice you have Renwicks in your list of names, my Great Grandmother was Ann Renwick married to Robert Gibson, does this ring any bells with you?
Thanks. Monalisa.
Romany-Rootschat is a wonderful site, my 4xggrandparents John & Letitia Gentle are listed with their children, all except my 3xggrandmother Jane she was born in 1817. Anyone have any ideas as to why she is missing? All but l child was born in Alkerton Oxford, Susannah was born Kidlington.

And can I just add, that Jean was a very common name here in Scotland in the 1800's, so I definately think it's Jean.
Diane.
