After the end of WW1, and into the 1920’s the house was rented out, to various members of the aristocracy and landed gentry, eg once to a Lady Alice Anne, Duchess of Buckingham and Chandos, and more frequently to a local lady, Evelyn Maude Newlands Cross, from nearby Earlston House, Borgue
