World War One / Re: Harry Tasker 1st Batn Lincolnshire Regiment
« on: Thursday 18 September 25 19:10 BST (UK)  »
Thank you all for your kind help, very appreciated, I am now off to find out what happened to him after 1917 as, so far, I have found no trace of him in the '21 or '39 records. My Grandmother to my recollection never mentioned him.

Hi Everyone,
I am trying to find any information on Harry my Great Uncle, I have read a newspaper cutting stating he was awarded a Silver Badge but can find no record, I also can find no trace of his service apart from the record in the Wigtoft - WW1 Book of Remembrance excerpt below, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kay99, is it possible that the Arthur Cuthbert on the birth cert was actually Arthur Denton and did Esther give a false christian name ?? also the Arthur Denton 1939 is lodging with his Aunt (or possible mother?) sister of Arthur John Denton

Whew, thanks for all the responses :)
Shaunj, I had missed that, perhaps they had a common law relationship until the official marriage??
still doesn't explain the lack of registration though ??? still trying to resolve the other 2 children more delving  ;D

Rosie99 & Kay99, Arthur Cuthbert is possibly Esther's brother b.1866 to Edward & Elizabeth Cuthbert Bethnal Green as listed on the 1881 Census, the french polishing is an interesting link as that trade follows through the whole Denton line

I have the above mentioned in the family of Arthur John Denton on 1901 census with a birthdate of 1895 Kingsland Middlesex and described as son.

Arthur John Denton married Esther Cuthbert 1899 Poplar London

I cannot find a birth registration for Arthur T despite using various spellings etc. I have discounted the 1897 Kensington birth as it is a different family.

My suspicion is that he is the son of  Arthur John's sister Charlotte who had 2 other children prior  to her marriage to Arthur Primmeth 1903, both in Arthur's household in 1911 as Denton stepchildren

Dorothy Denton registered under mothers maiden name of Denton 1900

Ivy Denton registered under mothers maiden name of Elliss 1902

(Elliss is the maiden name of  Charlotte's mother Emma, I think it unlikely Emma at 61 was the mother)

Perhaps there is no registration or baptism, but any help would be greatly appreciated

I don't know, that exactly what I was trying to find out  ;D  I think he was on the Eighth Exchange September 1944 as it's the only one that mentions Sassnitz, but the arrival dates in uk are for Oct '44 and the paper report is Sept '44  ???

Thank you both  :)
the link is fascinating, Harold was repatriated & arrived in Britain in sept '44, newspaper clipping anouncing his return is dated 26/09/1944.

He was wounded 22/02/1943 in Tunisia, all I can findout at the moment is that it involved his tibia and possibly his ankle and probably caused by a mortar.

He was originally taken to Camp No. H206 NOCERA (Rovello) Hospital until Italy left the war, and was then transferred to Stalag VIIIB until repatriation

I've been doing some digging following the help received and I think ??? the Iron Bridge in question may not be the Town Bridge or the Railway Bridge but the bridge over the Grand Sluice, which was a footbridge and I wonder if what is (or was) the Witham Tavern was originally called the Barge due to the proximity to the lock, this map shows the proposed railway route https://maps.nls.uk/view/257577065 with a spur ending approximately where the swing bridge is now, note no dock has been constructed yet. Given that a lot of building took place in the intervening years between the 2 maps could the original Paddock Grove have been gobbled up by the railway and the name reused in expanded building?
