Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: Mary A. Devenport

Heywood , thank you for your help and spotting my error which came from a mixing different Mary Ann Alkers. The 1871 census info in post 1 is the one due to 2 year old Robert being resident.

Can you at least advise on the most efficient way to do this ?

Mary A. Devenport   ,  General Servant of 51 Queen Street. Wigan in 1871 Census (has 2 year old son or younger sibling Robert with her)

Head of the household is Mary Ann Alker born 1835 , Shopkeeper at 51 Queen Street  Wigan.

Mary Ann Alker lists Mary A. Devenport as a Cousin .

(Mary Ann Alker's parents are James Alker of Haigh , Lancs.and Charlotte Corless of Dalton, Lancs.) This is an error should be Ann Simkin as wife, see later posts.

Can you help me find a Devenport marriage amongst the siblings of either James Alker or Charlotte Corless ? Thank you.

From surnamedb.com

SEBERT (Saxon King)

"This interesting and unusual surname, with variant spellings Seabert, Sebright, Seebright, Sawbridge etc., derives from the Old English pre 7th Century personal name Saebeorht, a
compound of the elements "sae", sea, plus "beorht", bright. This personal name was borne by a 7th Century King of Essex, and is occasionally found on record until the 10th Century. It re-emerges as "Sebertus" in the "Pipe Rolls of Gloucestershire", dated 1199. One, Ricardus filius (son of) Sebriht was noted in the "Pipe Rolls of leicestershire", dated 1200. The surname first appears in the latter part of the 13th Century, (see below). Other early recordings include Peter Sabright, ("The Close Rolls of Essex", 1290) and Michael Sebryth, ("The subsidy Rolls of Suffolk", 1327). one, William Sebright".

Other unverified references to Sebert (or other spelling) mention legends of this king in relation to St. Columba, other early christian missions and sites that later became abbeys. Will need to dig deeper.

Thank you both.  No newspaper record seems to exists for the toddler's death in 1966.
This particular family (from Amersham) has a terrible history starting with the two year old younger son being killed , then the suicide of his elder brother, the sudden death of the father following the suicide and finally the murder of the mother by rebels while on holiday in Burma / Thailand.  Exceptionally bad fortune by any measure.

Thames Valley police have told me that I need to contact a "police historian" after I made an enquiry to their archives.

I'm seeking information on the death of a two year old boy who was killed by a car in 1966.

Why are the police redirecting me to others when they own the road traffic incident records ?
