South Africa / Arrivals in South Africa 1891 - 1913
« on: Tuesday 18 June 24 04:37 BST (UK)  »
Greetings I am particularly interested in John Samual Howard 1876-1947 who was in the 1891 UK Census living with his mother Emma and 10 siblings in Romiley, Cheshire, England. My next record is of him marrying on 3 JAN 1905 in Stanger, Kwa-Julu, Natal. Later Emma Howard left the UK with many of her children from London aboard the Gaika on the 27th October 1909, arriving at Natal. His brother Jessie Howard was with Emma in the 1901 census and married on 1 March 1913 in Durban. I think Jesssie joined the army in South Africa and was repatriated back to South Africa after WWI. My question is "are there records on immigrants arriving in Natal during the period 1891 to 1913"?

England / Searching Recent Public Records
« on: Sunday 26 May 24 05:29 BST (UK)  »
I was wanting to search for recent records of my English relatives in public databases. What database searches are available for searching? I am in New Zealand so it's not practical for me to visit resources in the UK. I have found the 1921 census, 1939 register, BMD records and wills/probates to be useful. Information as to their children and where they lived would be helpful.
cheers

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Mary Hartley (born Clegg) death details
« on: Monday 06 May 24 00:13 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find details about Mary Clegg my 2nd great grandmother.
She was baptised 20 Aug 1819 at Manchester Cathedral, father James Clegg, mother Ann.
She Married 22 Aug 1839 to John Kennedy at Manchester Cathedral
John Kennedy died 4Q 1853
She remarried 5 Nov 1855 to William Henry Hartley at St Phillips, Manchester

Her last known address was 8 Clayton Street in Manchester (1881 census) where she resided with her son in law Michael Spencer and daughter Elizabeth Alice.

She is in the 1881 census but not the 1891 census, died between 1881 and 1891?

I have checked the UK Registry Office and found 50 Mary Hartley's registered deaths around Manchester between 1881 and 1891. On checking for registrations near Ancoats there were 5 in Chorlton and 1 in Salford (excluded).

I would like help on advising where to search next for details of her death?
