ok, I signed up to findmypast and this is the record I've been looking for! Thanks again for suggesting Latinising the name, that would never have occurred to me. Is that mostly a Catholic record thing or should I always be checking that?

You can see the church record of the marriage in FindMyPast and maybe in Ancestry if you use the latinised version of their names.
Mariam Annam TOOMEY married Jeremiam SULLIVAN on 18 Apr 1858 at St George’s Cathedral.
The father’s names are given. No occupations or abodes which you might get from the marriage certificate.
PS - search for the bride rather than the groom as Sullivans are common as muck.

Hi Spelk! Thanks for checking. So you can see the record on findmypast? And it contains the Fathers names? I've tried your suggestion to Latinise the name on Ancestry but couldn't locate it

Family History Beginners Board / Marriage Certificate from St George Southwark 1858
« on: Sunday 16 November 25 14:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All!

I'm trying to find a scan of a marriage certificate between Jeremiah Sullivan and Mary Ann Toomy in Q2 1858 at St George Southwark, London. I know this marriage happened at this place due to the England and Wales Civil Registration Marriage Index 1837-1915. However I'd like to see the actual document and hopefully get the names of their parents.

Does anyone know if they've been digitised and where I can find them? I have access to Ancestry but haven't found them on there yet. Is my only option to have it sent using the GRO service?

Thanks for any help!

James

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Re: Edward Trahar (possibly 1803) Death
« on: Tuesday 10 September 24 11:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi Ciderdrinker,

Thanks for looking into it!

Strange that we can't find either of the Edward's death records. I guess one reason is the variety of ways Trahar/Traher/Trahair/Trahear can be spelt compounded by handwriting recognition mixing up letters giving none obvious interpretations of the names, such as Grabar!.

I also can't find any other children of Edward and Grace except for Elizabeth. Not impossible for them to have only had 1 or 2 children but you'd usually expect them to have had more in those days.

Do you have anymore info on the 1861 residence? I can't find them on Ancestry

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Edward Trahar (possibly 1803) Death
« on: Wednesday 04 September 24 21:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I've been posting about my research on Edward Trahar in the Cornwall sub as I think he was born there, but I'm pretty sure he died in Middlesex.
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=885176

Annoyingly for me he went and died before 1837! His son Henry was born in 1835 and by 1840 Edwards wife Jane had married again as a widower. So Edward must have died between 1835-1837. I've searched GRO, FamilySearch, Ancestry and any other mainstream genealogy sites but haven't been able to find a match. I did find an Edward Traher who died in 1838 but at 68 he is probably too old to be my Edward - plus he had a different profession:
-1838 - Edward Traher dies at 68 due to "trauma/tumour in the face" in Falmouth, Cornwall [Occupation Shoe Maker; Record: Death Cert].

Here's what I know about my Edward:
-1827  - Marries Jane Underwood at Saint Mary Magdalene, Bermondsey [Record: Marriage Banns]
-1828  - Daughter Mary Ann baptised at St John Horsleydown, Bermondsey [Occupation: Carpenter; Record: Baptism]
-1831 - Son Edward John baptised at Christ Church With St Mary and St Stephen, Spitalfields [Abode: Osborne Place; Occupation: Carpenter; Record: Baptism]
-1835 - Son Henry baptised at Christ Church With St Mary and St Stephen, Spitalfields [Abode: Brick Lane; Occupation: Carpenter; Record: Baptism]

So based on the fact that he baptised his two most recent children at Christ Church and his two most recent abodes are listed as being nearby Christ Church, I wonder if he was buried there?

Any information or suggestions on where else to look would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

James

Mary Ann (1828) is Edwards (1803/1811) daughter. She had a daughter called Jane (1849) who is the one that appears as Henry Trahar's (1835) niece in the 1851 census. Jane has the surname Trahar as Mary Ann didn't marry until 1857.

Ah yeah good point! So he may well have been older. I have the marriage certificate for Edward and Jane (on ancestry):
https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageviewer/collections/1623/images/31280_199020-00512?pId=7858061

- 16 Aug 1827; Edward Trahar (Bachelor) and Jane Underwood (Spinster); Witnesses: Elizabeth James and John Wheeler; Location: Saint Mary Magdalene, Bermondsey

As you mentioned earlier the witness Elizabeth is potentially Edwards sister or cousin. No ages or indication of ages given though.

I hadn't looked into Mary actually, I'll do that next!

Thanks for this. I've checked both the
- St Gluvias Register between 1790-1810 (to include "base born" [new terminology for me!]).
 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-65ZQ-3?i=60&wc=3CB8-3TR%3A138123201%2C141408201%2C1582892802&cc=1769414
- Perran-ar-worthal Register between 1800-1811
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-6SDQ-C2?i=21&wc=3CB4-7M8%3A138123201%2C140472701%2C1582890208&cc=1769414

In 1811 there's an Edward Trahar baptised in Perranarworthal to Hopson Woolcock and Mary Trahar. This is the Edward that ancestry think is correct but I'm not convinced. It would mean he was 16 when he married Jane Underwood (who would have been 26!).

Not sure where to go from here. The registers don't look like they have gaps. I suppose I could check other Parish's in the area? Maybe see if there are any newspaper clippings for a baptism? No idea if that would have been a common thing at the time.

I've been talking to someone on Ancestry who believes that Edward and Elizabeth were siblings. They have Edward as being born in Cornwall on 1 Jun 1803. Unfortunately there's no records for it! Just information from other trees...

Given that Elizabeth was baptised in Perranarworthal, Cornwall, does anyone know if there's a way for me to read through the actual baptism image scans? There could be a transcription error and I have a rough date to scroll around.
