Scotland / Research at Mitchell library

Does anyone have a reliable research contact for looking up  specific requests at the Mitchell? I am looking for death/burial of a James Russell 1837 - 1838 at Neilston possibly only recorded in Parish Records and also Poor Law Relief records following this death by wife Janet Russell/Kirkland. Could have been in Carmunnock, Neilston or Eaglesham.  I have looked on research sies but they mostly only quote for a full tree which I do not want.

Anyone know anything about the origin of shorthorns in the Waikato?  I know they were there by about 1866 when Wm Russell brought in 6 from Auckland and set up a milk round. The first ones in NZ were from Australia 1814 via Samuel Marsden Missionary in the Bay of Islands.  It seems they were well established by 1840s.

Several ancestors served in the Waikato Militia and received land grants both town acres and rural land blocks.  I am interested in finding out when and to who these changed hands over the years and also in seeing the original land grant documents for some of these.
I have a copy of the relevant surveys from the 1860s which lists the Parish numbers and names of soldiers for each parcel of land. Is this enough to start a search and where would I go from here?
Any help much appreciated.

Try the archivist at Baradene College in Auckland.
It is the only school left in NZ of the same order and should have history details for Erskine and Timaru etc

School website   just Google   Baradene College

The archivist has recently changed and I do not know the name of the new one.
