I too am struggling with Ellen Maria Chipperfield. She would have been my second great grandmother and my grandma left a note explaining that Ellen  was a direct Chipperfield descendant and that Ellen and her sister were walking down the street one day and saw a man through a window in what she described as maybe a old peoples home and that man turned out to be their father ( who I guess is Thomas) going by marriage certificate. They took him home to live with them but struggling to find this in any census so far . She also said Thomas had run away from fairground life as he did not like it so wondering if Ellen may have been born abroad ? Any help greatfully received .
