With your help I think we've eliminated the Chesterfield one.
I have the birth certificate for my father from 1904 etc
It was just that with the same set of initials they both appeared in the same search and I needed to know if mine had moved around or remarried.
My thanks

I suppose at 43 that's possible. His son, my half brother flew in a Lancaster out of Lincolnshire up till early 1945 (crashed, died).
If I could confirm as John Hugh Henry that would help. But how?
He's back in Hampshire by 1953 at the latest, hence me.
Besides my records (adoption) mention his "family" of 4 or 5 children - 2 post school age.
Just a bit confusing.
To add or eliminate?

Family History Beginners Board / On the Hardy trail. Same or different person?
« on: Monday 01 April 24 17:23 BST (UK)  »
My father John Hugh Henry Hardy was born Wareham, Dorset in 1904. Died 1974.
He already had a family of which I'm not part.

Wondering if this is the same person, as found via FreeBMD
Hardy John H H married McIntyre / or Hardy - from the entry) Chesterfield 3a 518 Dec 1947 - is there a reson for the 2 names ?
If it is it's a long way from home and I'm wondering what he's doing there. Another family?
Is there an easy way to check without ordering a certificate?

I've been using the Ancestry setup but don't find it ideal. American, cluttered and to a degree illogical. Also their algorithm throws up loads of potentially false leads which I have seen others follow.
I deleted one incorrect entry and it took out several correct ones. It also appears to assign 2 unmarried parents as Spouses when you may want a "link to" rather than one of the names on a particular tree if running separate trees.

Ideally I'd like a simple uncluttered arrangement which links additional data and notes to a printable record (MS Word) and automatically rearranges say names and dates in order per record  The ability to relocate an individual on a tree (drag and drop) could also be useful.

Thoughts and recommendations appreciated?

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Re: 2 William Richardsons in North West Hampshire

From the 1851 Census I went looking for William and Frederick.
Hungerford looked like the right place (referring to BMD) as I was  thinking if I could locate the 2 with a common father that might do the trick.
Certificates
William 1838 father John Richardson mother Ann Hiscock.
Frederick 1842 father Henry mother Hannah Bolshire.
Think that ruled that William out.
There are 2 Wiliams over at Great Bedwyn but that takes us away from the initial 1851 reference which in itself may be incorrect. No more information on this one.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / 2 William Richardsons in North West Hampshire
« on: Sunday 17 March 24 08:21 GMT (UK)  »
Coming back to this after a 15 year break.
I got as far as William Richardson marrying Mary Ann Alder December 17th 1864 / Ashmansworth.
William's father was also a William but I can't find a reference for both together.
Kingsclere, Highclere, Crux Easton, Fosbury, Shalbourne, maybe Hungerford and Great Bedwyn all feature so the Richardsons don't appear to have moved very far in 160+ years.
I was adopted in 1954 and live 300 miles away from the area so can't really go carry out more in depth local research.
In 1851 I have a young William (dob 1841) as living with siblings Thomas & Frederic (and others) in his grandfather's house (RG No. HO107, piece 1686, Folio 153, P.13) - no positive parent listed. This may be a false lead.
I have obtained birth certificates for several other likely candidates but finding the 2 Williams together in the 1840's I can't locate.
Could someone help me out please?

Thank you all - I've also noted that if an individual has several Christian names that can vary over the years.
I currently have a bit of a genealogical knot pre 1851. Apparently related individuals (probably cousins) but having no discoverable link thus far.
Where best to post that?

Thank you Stephan that simplifies things and almost confirms the William I found in the 1840's may be the correct one.
I also note from my research (of similar / partly linked family trees to my own) that many accept the suggestions the algorithms throw up and then head off in totally the wrong direction. I do try check any new links I find 3 or 4 times.
There will be more questions to follow as I haven't  done any research for 15 years.
Thank you
