hi - I'm not able to find the townland listed in the attached image ("Aghammeolla"; 1831 Census) on Townland.ie, John Grenham's place name search (with wildcards), or Google. Can anyone clarify what this townland is?

Fascinating questions - and so relevant to my research as well. I've spent the better part of the past year learning a lot about Bellaghy, Portglenone, Ballyscullion, Drummaul, Ahoghill, Randalstown, and the general area looking for McNallys. Of which there were many.

Even after all of this research, I can't provide guidance on your questions - with one possible exception, #6.

I suspect that my paternal g, g, grandfather ("James", of course!) or his father, might have done seasonal work in Scotland. I recently found this: Ireland, Irish Emigration Lists, 1833-1839 (on Ancestry). I believe these records are extracted from a larger collection - an Ordnance Survey of Antrim. Although this time frame is too early to have included my g, g, grandfather, I suspect some of the McNallys / McAnallys included are my relatives. Thought it might be of use to you.

I don't share any of the other surnames you've listed, with the exception of O'Neill. Do you have a public tree anywhere that I could take a look at?

Hello,

This may not be of use, or you may already have it, but I found a Stafford O'Neill witnessing the marriage of Nicholas Scullion to Ally O'Neill in 1853 in Greenlough, Co. Derry. With Stafford was a Cecily O'Neill.

My possible ancestor (Peter McNally) is on the line below Stafford. :-)

Again, this isn't Stafford or Ellen's parents, but I had read about Stafford O'Neill here in Rootschat and the name stuck with me. Hope that if you don't already have this, it's of some use!

I didn't have either of these two reports, Ashtone, thank you. Where are you finding these? My searches on Newspapers.com and GenealogyBank are coming up empty - but maybe they don't have the papers I need in their collections. 

One thing that always bothered me was that their son, George, listed on a marriage application in 1929 that his parents were both deceased and that they resided in "Mass." (which I interpreted to be Massachusetts. I never could understand why he would list "Mass." as their last residence when they (or at least James) spent so much time in Philadelphia. Can you share the article that references Boston?
