Hi, My Stephen was born around 1750 and died in 1799 in Norton St Philip.  He  married Joanna Rainells in Norton. I just can't find his baptism but some of the register is missing. Best wishes Grace

Hi Trish, thanks for replying. Yes I have seen the actual image. You can trawl through them on Ancestry at the front page search. This and Stephen Perry have been brick walls for years. I have subsequently found Holdshots in Bradford on Avon and they start with a Peter in the early 1600s. But no evidence of where they originate from. Thank you so much for answering. Best wishes Grace

Hi Again, If you look at the baptism of Elizabeth Holshut -it is to William and Joanna and that of Alexander is to John and Joanna, only 2 years apart. I have therefore always treated John and William  as brothers. Alexander and Elizabeth then being cousins which would explain their attendance as a couple at her wedding. Thanks once again.

Hi Trish, yes that's exactly it. Elizabeth Holshut marrying James Reynolds is my relative. Alexander and Susannah Holshut were witnesses at the wedding.
He has different parents but they must be related in some way. Thank you for your help. Best wishes Grace

Hi, yes that is what I think too. It was the mother of one of my 5th great grandparents so I would like to trace it. I have tried the various spellings but no real links yet. Thanks for the reply

Hi, Has anyone come across or have any knowledge of the surname Holstat and its various forms Holshoot Holshut Holshod Holeshut. I have several relatives in my direct line with that name. They are around the 1700s but I can't trace them back or forward. I also came across a few Bowshotts in the same register and wondered if that had just been put in by mistake as that name completely disappears too

Somerset Lookup Requests / Stephen Perry of Norton St Philip
« on: Monday 26 February 24 09:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I have a brick wall with Stephen Perry of Norton St Philip. I have his marriage to Joanna Reinells ( Reynolds) in Norton on 28/10/1787 both of the parish. The witnesses were Alexander  and Susannah Holdshoot (Joanna's Mother's maiden name). They go on to have James, Betty and Sarah. (My line is through James). Stephen is then buried in Norton on 15th April 1799.
Most people following this line think that he was born in St Mary Redcliffe Bristol but the name on that register is Parry and I don't think it fits.
Any help with looking for a baptism or line of descent would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I can't see where he would fit at the moment. I have quite a few Perrys who disappear from Norton St Philip. Do you have any other Perrys in this family?. I have a Stephen whose baptism I can't find but he marries Joanna Renolds in Norton.
