Hello, Does anyone have a Jane Dixon (b 1806 Borrowdale). She may have married Thomas Birkett (b 1811 Borrowdale). I see a daughter of this couple named Mary Dixon Birkett in the 1841. Thanks, Mike Adair

Hi Aileen, Good to be in touch. I will email as I much prefer the direct contact. For the benefit of others interested in this family, Henriques Valentine is a family of Sephardi Jews of East London who originated in Spain and Portugal and were expelled by the Alhambria Decree. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sephardi_Jews and also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alhambra_Decree (and see the map)
We do not know how they came to London but it may have been via Amsterdam. The Alhambra Decree (also known as the Edict of Expulsion) was an edict issued on 31 March 1492 by the joint Catholic Monarchs of Spain (Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon) ordering the expulsion of Jews from the Kingdoms of Castile and Aragon (not from the Kingdom of Navarre) and its territories and possessions by 31 July of that year.
