Probate only gave wife and two children BUT his marriage certificate gave his parents as Henry Smith ( Labourer) and Ellen SMITH nee DOUGLAS.
Can not find a marriage for these pair on BDM (What's new)
A Ellen SMITH died 1923 and buried Purewa ( age about right)
A Henry SMITH died 1926 and buried Purewa but not in the same grave.
Will follow next year with a look at 1926 Probate for H SMITH and chase a certificate from the NZSG for E SMITH.

I'm new to this so unsure if I'm repling right .
My partners father is the grandson of Orpheus smith . His father was Victor Smith and was raised by Ruby Smith.
We would love to have any information possible as we can't find anymore past the marriage certificate of Orpheus and Annie smith where Orpheus parents are listed as Henry and Ellen Smith nee douglas
