This Johan Gustaf Cederlund was still living in Finland in 1866 - bottom of page:

Thanks for the information, the Johan I was trying to track was married in Albury in 1861, so I'm not sure that's the Johan I'm looking for (although you mentioned his parents were Tailor journeyman Johan Cederlund and Maria Mattsdotter).

Some more information that I found regarding his wife (Wilhelmine Henriette Dorothea Magthalena DANKEL)
She immigrated with Christian Dankel (along with two children). They arrived in Melbourne, VIC from Liverpool, UK in 1855 on the vessel 'Africa'.
Christian was working in Albury in 1857 (from the Border Post Albury) as a perruquier (wig maker).
He then died in 1861. His death certificate mentions his offspring as two being deceased, both female and two living.
The children were:
Minnie Dankel (1851- 1931) She died in Lidcombe, NSW aged 72. Her married name was Beresford and had 11 children.
Amelia Dankel. She died 19 April 1937 in Karrakatta, WA.

Then his widow married Johan Cederlund in 1861 and had three children.

My current angle of research is via his wifes family, the Dankels, to see if they have any information.

How old was he when he died and how long does it say he had been in NSW?

Debra  :)

The death certificate has him dying at age 78 (August 11, 1907 in the Corowa Hospital) approx 40 years in NSW.
Name and occupation of his parents: John Cederland - Wine Merchant. Charlotte Elliston.
The age of his kids listed are off by about 5 years.

This would appear to be his death in the NSW BDM index:

1907 #8725, reg Corowa
John CEDERLAND
Parents: JOHN CHARLOTTE

There is an on-line tree which gives his confirmation? (I think!)
From: Finland, Communion Books, 1670-1917

Name   Jöhan Gustaf Cederlund
Birth Date   27 heinä 1840 (27 Jul. 1840)
Confirmation Place   Tampereen tuomiokirkkoseurakunta, Hämeenlinnan maakunta, Suomi (Finland)
Residence Place   Finska:, Tammerfors Stads Församling, Suomi (Finland)
Relation to Head   Scholaris
Volume Year Range   1838-1889

This tree suggests his birth was in Stockholm, Sweden

Judith

Thanks! That matches the information on the death certificate that I have ie Corowa, parents names.

May I ask what online website had that tree information?

Although his death and marriage were registered in NSW the towns he lived in were close to the Murray. These Riverina towns were closer to Melbourne than Sydney so he may well have arrived in Melbourne and made his way north.

Judith

As far as I know he arrived in Melbourne (I got this information in the 80s from two researchers).

I'm also thinking of looking into his wife's first family, the Dankels (as mentioned in this thread).
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=316708.msg6096115#msg6096115It might bring up some more information.
Although, my aunty mentioned years ago, they didn't want anything to do with them once she remarried. Wilhelmine's kids married into Peterson and Berisford families (I'll add this information to the thread above).

Australia / Shipping Arrival Info - Johan CEDERLUND
« on: Monday 05 February 24 16:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm currently trying to trace my ancestor, a Swedish citizen that immigrated to Australia, JOHAN CEDERLUND.

I have his information in Australia, but the trail goes cold when we get to the arrival information, so it's preventing me from researching any further back into his country of origin, (Stockholm) Sweden.

It may have be a case of stolen identity upon arrival.  :(

Some more information:

He died in 1907 (August 11?) in Corowa, NSW.

He never listed his parents on the Australian Marriage certificate.
He married Wilhelmine Henriette Dorothea Magthalena DANKEL (nee WALLMANN) on 28 Jun 1861 in Albury NSW.

Some random ships we thought he might have been on are:
'Pauline', arriving South Australia Dec 9, 1849
'Amelia Thompson' September 27, 1839
'Edward' April 12, 1842

Here is some research information that we received from a Swedish inquiry

"In my opinion this could be a case of theft of identification. Johan Adam, whom the Stockholm Stadsarkiv found in the 80-ies, seems to be living in Stockholm in 1861. The man in Australia stated that his father was a wine dealer (information found in the death certificate). In fact, there was a Johan Cederlund born on 30 April, 1825, as son to wholesale dealer Johan(nes) Cederlund and his wife Charlotta Rosenlind. But this Johan Cederlund lived in Stockholm, married there and died in 1909.

So to me it seems as if the man in Australia has taken the identification from the son of the wholesale dealer. Possibly, he could also have been illegitimate son of Johannes Cederlund."

Chris added to this that Johannes Cederlund belonged to the Cederlund family, famous for their Swedish punsch production."

Any new information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks  :-*

Following the death of JHC Dankel, WHDM Dankel married Johan Cederlund on 28 Jun 1861 in Albury NSW.

Hi theroob, sorry to hijack the thread, but do you have any information on Johan Cederlund pre marriage?
(Just checking before I create a lookup request)
I am the great granddaughter of Johan and was looking for immigration information.
I don't have any arrival information, so can't trace him back to Sweden (it may be a case of identify theft upon arrival).

Thanks!
