Thank you kindly, Good Sir!

This is the label on the jacket of the document. I can handle the text of the document, but could use some help with this.

Yes, I can see that interpretation. Checking, I see there are a number of Ludlow families in that parish, so I think you are right. Of course looking for something like Hildesley, that's what I then saw! Thanks for putting me straight!

Here's a more extensive sample of his hand.

I think it's an o, but his o's a's and e's are a bit non-standard. I'll get together a few more lines shortly for comparison.

Thanks

From the 1555 will of John Kent of Burghfield, Berkshire.
I'm having trouble with the last name of his daughter Jone.
Possibly some variant of Hildesley.

I have encountered it used by a 17th C. male writer in reference to another male of a different surname. That made me consider if it might have been used at that time to distinguish, for example, cousins from cousins-in law.

Wiltshire / John Kente Hungerford 16th - 17th C.
« on: Sunday 26 November 23 19:38 GMT (UK)  »
The visitation of Berkshire shows Ann Hildesley or Ilsley of Beenham marrying a John Kente of Hungerford, Wiltshire. No dates given, but likely lived 2nd half of 16th or early 17th C. I am having no luck finding any other record of this John Kente (or Kent, Kentt, etc.) in or near Hungerford. I've looked for wills, PRs, BTs, etc. with no success. Any help from someone with expertise in this area would be greatly appreciated.

You might find this helpful: https://berkshirehistory.com/gentry/ilsley.html. George's 1567 will is also in the Berkshire Record Office. I would be interested in the Vicar's letter you have as I am following his brother John's line.
