Possibly Isabella & John Campbell in 1901?

Kirk Yetholm, Roxburghshire
John Campbell, 56, b England, general dealer
Isabella Campbell, 56, b England dealers wife

And this in June 1901;

Got her!

“Isabella Campbell or Anderson, wife of John Campbell…”

“She states that he is her second husband..”

So Isabella is nee Anderson, it seems she is the sister of Jane Miller (Anderson).  After Michael died she must’ve ‘married’ to John Campbell.

1882 Census
Broomhill, Lumphanan, Aberdeenshire
John Campbell, 35, b England, horse dealer
Isabella Campbell, 38, b England, horse dealer’s wife

Maybe?
Free text
Durham County Advertiser, 2 March 1849
In this city, at the Register Office, on Saturday last, Mr William Ayre (to) Mrs Mary Suter, both of Cassop.

Marriage registered March qtr 1849 Durham 24 102
William Ayre, Mary Suter

I can’t yet find them in 1851, but in 1861 they can be found in Thornley (Easington RD).
Mary’s birthplace is Bigges Main, which fits well with Longbenton.
RG 9/3750/36/8

Just had a look at that 1861 census and the two girls with them (Margaret Hills & Ann Hills) I believe are actually Mary’s granddaughters. Her eldest daughter Margaret (1818) married to a Thomas Hills.

1851, St Giles
Thomas Hills, 43, b Lanchester
Margaret Hills, 33, b Lanchester
Francis Hills, 9, b Thornley
Ann Hills, 8, b Thornley
Margaret Hills, 6, b Annfield Plain

Jane Hills, 1, b Black Fell

Thank you, that looks like a very good match.

Durham / What happened to Mary Souter?
« on: Saturday 25 October 25 10:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I’m trying to find the whereabouts of Mary (nee Greenwell), wife of Isaac Souter/Sutter/Sulter after 1848. She was born in 1798 at Longbenton, daughter of Robert Greenwell & Margaret Grey.

She married Isaac in 1844 at Longbenton under the name Mary Ann Coxon.

Isaac died 22 September 1848 at Cassop Hill, Durham, and she was the informant for his death.

Previously Mary was married to Francis Coxon at Houghton-Le-Spring in 1816. They had Margaret (1818), Jane (1820), Eleanor (1822), Rosina (1828), Thomas Gray Greenwell (1830) and Elizabeth (1835). Francis died in 1839 at Killingworth.

In 1841 Mary lived at Waggonman’s Row in Longbenton with her children Rosina & Thomas.

Any help is very appreciated  :)

Lawrence Aspin
Birth registration Q2 1889
Haslingden, Lancashire

Added: there seems to be a better-documented Lawrence Aspin at Accrington, born 1867, a cotton weaver.

Added again: it’s now looking as if the older LA was the father of the younger, and the latter died in infancy. I’ll stop now as I don’t suppose that you need all of this.

Alan,

Thank you for all that info it’s really helpful. I have actually been trying to find what it says to track who Lawrence was. I have a few other books but this was the only one with a distinctive enough name.

I wonder if Lawrence b. 1867 is the one I’m after.

Ray,

Thanks for the response. The book is “The history of Jack and his eleven brothers” published by Milner and Company, Paternoster Row. No publication year on it.

Hi,

I recently purchased an old book and it had this inscription in the back. I can make out the top name as Lawrence but would appreciate some help in deciphering the other two lines.

Thank you  :)

In this region many "houses" were actually built as two flats, known as Tyneside Flats.  In plan, they appear larger than the average terraced house in industrial towns.  Many have two front doors, one leading directly to a staircase, with another staircase at the back to a shared yard.

That is really interesting! I didn’t know they had a specific name or were only in the North East.

I grew up in a flat as described, we were in the upstairs. Our door number was still a 1/2 number instead though.
