Canada Lookup Request / Re: Death notice for Nicholas EYRE
« on: Thursday 13 May 10 03:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi Paule9. Thanks for your reply.
I am actually a descendant of William Henry Eyre, Jacobs elder brother.
With regard to your branch, I have Henry Alfred born to Jacob and Ellen, 1869.
Henry married Gertrude O'Brien in 1892 and I have some information regarding their seven children and some of their grandchildren.

I'd like to gain some more knowledge about your branch and perhaps pass on to you some of my information. Private message sent.
Mick

Yes, Karen and so many others on this site are fantastic in graciously giving their time, experience and knowledge so that plodders like myself can trace their roots.

J.J. I checked out some of the photos of which you mentioned in your previous post and I will renew my membership to that site in order to further pursue that line.
I have had a few years off from researching but your lead has once again motivated me. Thanks for your input.

Thanks a lot J.J. You have given me the necessary prod to get back to researching this line again.

There were indeed two children named Jacob Thomas. The first was born 1840 but died 1841.

I knew that Nicholas married Eliza but I didn't know her family name. Thanks for bringing Pope to my attention.
I have found one child for this marriage: Margaret, but that's the only information I have.
The middle initial "B" is a mystery. Most of the middle names used for other siblings were taken from parents etc. The "B" doesn't fit.

It seems that the "s" was dropped from Eyre about 1835. I tend to think that Eyres may have come from Hare. I was researching that connection.

Thank you also for the prompt regarding the photos and other information. I'll follow that up.

As an update to this thread.
I was unsuccessful in obtaining the 1967 death certificate for Lucas. The QLD BD&M office will not give step children of the deceased access to their records.

I will therefore need to wait until 2017 before I can apply again.  :-\

Thanks again to all those of you who assisted in identifying Beryl Llewellyn Lucas as the person I was looking for.
I have since found some very interesting information about her. I was also successful in applying for her birth certificate which provided further information about her.

I couldn't have done it without your valuable help and guidance.

Thank you Anita.
The 1934 electoral roll record confirms the information supplied by Trish and Sue. More importantly, it provides me with a larger picture of their lives during those times.
I appreciate your effort in bringing me this information.

The Sydney names that you have found are the children from his first family and include his first wife.

There is no doubt that the mysterious B L Lucas has now been accurately identified thanks to all of you people who have given your personal time to help me find some of the missing pieces to the family jigsaw puzzle.
Where would we be without you.
Thanks again, one and all.

I don't like to impose on anyone either regarding searching for and photographing headstones in Toowong Cemetery, but.....

....thanks to Trish's brilliance in tracking down my long lost relative, I would be most grateful if anyone is visiting the cemetery and could look for the grave of Beryl Llewelyn EYRE. Portion 28, Section 31, Grave Number 24.

Please don't make any special trips and if it can't be done, no worries at all.

Thanks again Trish and Sue,
I'll place an order for the death certificate and keep my fingers crossed.
The newspaper funeral notice would also be a bonus.

Trish, You may have nailed it.
Just reading through your summary, it does make a lot of sense and certainly provides me with a lot of new leads I didn't have before...or didn't consider before you laid it all out for me.

The Queensland neighbour who wrote a letter to my family in 1946 believed that Halyn was named after her parents. Hal & Lyn. Llewellyn certainly fits.
The same neighbour also though that Lucas may have returned to Victoria following Harry's death. The Victorian connection is another fit.
An author would have been the type of company that Harry would have kept. This fits too.

Thank you so much for opening my eyes.

....and also many thanks to Sue and Ruskie for your valuable contribution.

I'll start a new search to follow these leads and come back to this thread to let you know of the results.

Children in their 60's does sound rather unlikely but according to the two records that I have, it appears to be fact.

His 1946 death certificate lists all of his children. The last child is recorded as Halyn Eyre Lucas, 8 years.
The 1945 Tennyson State School register records Halyn Eyre, 7 years 1 month, DOB: 22.1.37.

He was not divorced from his first wife, so there shouldn't be any marriage record with Lucas.
If Lucas remarried following Harry's death, that makes it all the more difficult to trace her.
I don't know whether Halyn might have used the name Eyre or Lucas.

....and I don't know where they might have met. He may well have met her in NSW and then re-located to QLD.

This may well be a brick wall that I won't be able to penetrate.  :-[
