Here he is...
ELIZABETH, FREDERICK  JAMES
Mother's Maiden Surname:
GRO Reference: 1924  M Quarter in PETERBOROUGH  Volume 03B  Page 301

Perhaps his mother had Elizabeth as a middle name, read as surname by the GRO?

What did you put in to find that? When I search..the only one that comes up is my grandad, Alfred George William Arbon

The record I had definitely had his mother's maiden name as Arbon...so now very confused

The Common Room / Housekeeper? Or.....
« on: Thursday 28 August 25 20:23 BST (UK)  »
I know a lot of women were down as housekeepers, living with single men..

but was it code for people in an unmarried relationship?

For example my 2xgt grandfather had a 'housekeeper' living with him, with her 1 year old son, he was a fairly young man, and his wife had passed in 1918...by 1921 he has this woman living with him..by 1939 she wasn't living with him...

What does everyone think?

You could be right with the sister in law

Charlotte Hardwick marriage to William Swales in St Neots 1 Jul 1861

father John Hardwick and one of the witnesses is Sophia Hardwick

Ann had a daughter Charlotte Sophia so she was probably another sister

Thank you, they do like to confuse us!haha..
But still no idea where James has vanished to....very strange

Yes I agree - here's another one to check

Arthur James Sep 1883 - Mar 1884 Huntingdon

From what I see,Arthur doesn't appear to be theirs

There were 2 other girls who died young born Huntingdon

Emma Ann - Sep 1875 - Mar 1879

Mary Louisa - Dec 1878 - Mar 1879

the dates would fit in with your family

I'll have a look at the baptism records, will let you know if they are the same family.

It looks like Emma Ann was theirs, but Mary Louisa wasn't

Not necessarily no especially if she was just visiting

trying to check the birth registrations - is this right?

William Charles Dec 1880 mothers name Hardwick

Charlotte Sophia Mar 1871 mothers name Hardwicke

but haven't found Eliza yet

there are other Hills/Hardwick births but could be a different couple

The only other child I've found is Eliza Jane Hills(married name Reedman) born around 1873

Otherwise, yes thats the correct family

Do you know the people Ann is visiting in 1901?

Nope! Absolutely no clue, given the ages, potentially could be a sister of Ann's but haven't made that link yet.

Would she have shown as sister in law to the head, if this was the case?
