Armed Forces / Re: William Hanson - Shropshire Light Infantry 2942

Hi Shaun

Just checked The actual wording of the Diamond Wedding newspaper article and it stated "William served in the Boer War, the effects of which he afterwards died"

So something other than an injury or perhaps the 1917 injury you mentioned.

Thanks again
Ian

Hi Shaun

Brilliant!

that is definitely him as the family were at Quarter House on the 1891 census. The info I had of him dying of injuries sustained in the Boer War came from an article in the Wallasey (Cheshire) news of 1928 celebrating the diamond wedding of his father John and mother Betsy, who had moved to the Wirral.

Strange how facts get distorted!

Thanks very much Shaun

Perhaps he isn’t ‘my’ William Hanson then? I found a detail under soldiers of Shropshire. I have just seen that ‘my’ William mhave been born at St Martins but often things used to get mistranscribed or confused.

Hi

I am trying to find info on my relative above who I believe died as a result of injuries sustained in the Boer War (although do not know when). William was born in Church Stretton, Shropshire c 1871 to parents John Hanson and Betsy (nee Speke).

I think I have the correct military serial number above but am not 100% sure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Regards

Ian

Hi Sandra

I wonder if I could possibly ask for one more obit if available please? The Beaver-Jones were descended from my Mum’s family the Hansons four of whom emigrated to Canada in the early part of the 20th century.

There is another Hanson (Barbara) born c 1947 who I believe died in Edmonton, possibly Strathcona, in April 1988 (23rd?) Is there an obit? I have her parents obituaries but not hers.

Again any help is greatly appreciated

Hi Sandra

Thanks very much for all these!

Coincidentally another brother High died in a motor cycle accident in Calgary when he was only 18 (I have his obit from the Calgary Herald) and that of his mother Elizabeth Emma Ho Lem aged 99 (Beaver-Jones nee Hanson, my mother’s maiden name)

I have found a few articles written by Walter when he was in Kelowna and a few articles mentioning him in the Lethbridge Herald.

I didn’t however have these that you sent!

Is there perhaps an obituary for his brother Frederick? He was a realtor in Victoria B.C. I think he died in December 1998.

Regards

Ian
