Midlothian / Re: Divorce records - 1906(?)

These records are held by the National Records of Scotland, not by the Courts and Tribunals Service which deals with more recent legal proceedings.

You could contact the NRS https://www.nrscotland.gov.uk/contact-us/?enq=Records%20and%20conservation and ask them for a quote for supplying photocopies of the associated papers.

Or you could ask an agent to get copies for you. There are lots of people who offer such a service see

thank you, do you know if there is a pretty big premium for copying these records as they have already asked for £15 search fee and an "estimate"? :))

Midlothian / Divorce records - 1906(?)
« on: Monday 07 April 25 12:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I recently came upon a divorce record for my great great grandfather's brother Adam Notman against his wife Margaret (neé Ritchie) "& another" on the NRS catalogue. I have emailed the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service with these details, as I cannot go and view these records myself, and they have asked for which court this divorce was held in. Would anyone know from these details? All I've gathered is "E Office Roxburgh". Thanks :)
CS257/1071 - Adam Notman vs Margaret Ritchie or Notman & another - Year of Calling 1906: Reference No. of Transmission: Office 175 E (Roxburgh) - also has a date of 1920 oddly enough.

So he was definitely in India at that time.
Yes, he served in the Burma campaign and he was shot down + captured (he apparently escaped from the camp he was interned in and made it somehow to an Australian boat which recognised his accent, he also threw out his medals and such post war)

here’s an excerpt, it is looking like it says “Baroda” more than “Basoda”

World War Two / AGS Basoda?? - Air Gunnery School

I was just going over my great grandad's RAF records where I saw he had been moved to "AOs? A.G.S Basoda?" on 23rd Oct 1942 - I found out that AGS stands for Air Gunnery School but I haven't found anything on a "Basoda" not even sure if that's what it says and I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about it
Thanks :)

As Jack was born in S Quarter 1878, and I've found a sort of match living in Leeds (born 4th July 1878) who is married to an Annie in 1939
I'll try to look for the one from Hull if I can

Possible deaths for him

Dec qtr 1942 in Leeds aged 64
Sept qtr 1958 Hull aged 80

Have you already discounted them?
I must've seen them before but no I haven't discounted them

These are my girlfriend's ancestors - Jack was a retired soldier/coal hewer who lived on 42 Regent St in Balby, Doncaster and Ellen was an Irish housewife. According to family stories, Jack left Ellen for another woman at least after 1921 and apparently their son chased him down the street and jumped on him in anger but that's a whole other story. 1921 census is where I last find them two - the 1939 register has all of their children all married and living on their own means. Any help trying to track them both down would be vastly appreciated :)
Jack was born in Ripley, Derbyshire in 1878
Ellen was born c. 1881-82 in Ballintemple, Co. Cork

World War Two / Re: RAF in India WW2

Another post to make,
I received the records of my great grandpa Albert Joseph Griffiths not too long ago, who was a gunner in Burma and according to legend was a POW until he managed to escape. He never spoke of his wartime experiences and I'm not sure if he is on any POW rolls - how would I be able to find these?
Those records were surprisingly redacted to hell and back, which is a slight thorn in my side but I'll make do.
