Hi my;late father's sister Roisin McDaid is buried in the same grave as William and Rose in Derry City Cemetery. She died at 9 months in 1942 and was the child of Charles Gerard (Gerry) McDaid, born 1912 and Hannah McDaid (nee Doherty). I am trying to work out the connection between my grandfather Gerry and William, who seems to have come from Illies outside Buncrana, and Rose (nee Kelly). I think my grandfathers parents were James McDaid and Catherine McDaid (nee Boyle) who are listed as living in Beechwood Street, Derry with their other three children Richard, John and Catherine (Molly) in 1911, the year before my grandfather was born.  Have found William Kelly listed as a shoemaker here https://www.failteromhat.com/kelly1915all.php and their grave is shown here https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/205492765/william-mcdaid

Derry man here, Rose Frain was my great grandmother, the mother of my grandmother Hannah McDaid (nee Doherty). Rose Frain and Daniel Doherty had four daughters and one son as far as I know, Winnifred, Hannah, Mary, Annie and Danny. My own grandmother Hannah married Charles Gerard McDaid (Gerry) and they had 12 children including my late father Brendan.Gerry played football for Derry City FC Sligo Rovers FC and some teams in England in the 1930s and 40s. I've traced Rose Frain's line through the maternal Green side back to the earliest Plantagenet kings and queens of England, Henry I, Henry III, Eleanor of Aquitaine etc and the kings of Scotland, Duncan and Malcolm but alas have hit a brick wall with Mathias Frain from County Roscommon and his wife Bridget (nee Lyon or Lyons). Irish ancestry is very hard to trace compared to English or Scottish.

Hi I think I found the grave of your William and Rose McDaid in Derry city cemetery via find a grave.com My late father Brendan McDaid's sister Roisin, who died as a baby, is buried with them along with their son William McDaid. My grandfather was Charles Gerard (Gerry) McDaid, born 1912 and pictured, from Beechwood Street in Derry and I think his parents were James McDaid and Catherine Boyle going by the 1911 census. I've hit a bit of a dead end since then though and this is the only link I can find to my grandfather Gerry's ancestors. Trying to work out the connection between William and Rose and my grandfather Gerry's father James McDaid. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/205492765/william-mcdaid

Hi I have recently been tracing my grandparents and Im having a bit of trouble finding my Granda McDaid's family. His name was Charles Gerard (Gerry) McDaid and he lived in Creggan. His mother was Catherine Boyle and his father was James McDaid. On the 1911 census James and Catherine (married 1905) are listed as living in Beechwood Street in Derry. My grandfather Gerry was a footballer with Derry, Sligo and some other teams and his brother John was also a footabller. My grandfather Gerry and grandmother Hannah McDaid had 12 children, one of whom Roisin died as a baby. I have found online an image of Roisin's grave. Roisin was buried in Derry city cemetery alongside older McDaid relatives who I am sure are from the Illies (Image attached). My own father Brendan McDaid passed away in 2014. I'm trying to work out what the connection is between my grandfather, his grandfather and the two William McDaids and Rose (nee Kelly) McDaid. I've attached a photo of my grandfather also. Any help appreciated. From the William Mc Daid Parents were Denis and Brigid Mc Daid, Born in Buncrana, Co Donegal, Residence 67 Creggan Road, Derry Died on 12 Feb 1947 Aged 77 Years. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/205492765/william-mcdaid
