Hi Marp,

The data I have been given ( from Olive Morison ) tells me that Alexander Morison was born on the 30/10/1794).  He married Helen Garnoch on 3/9/1830.  I have detailed their children on another post.

Alexander was the son of  George Morison ( born ( 16/11/1761 ) and Margaret Lessells ( christened on 12/9/1756 ).  George had a sister, Margaret ( christened on the 24/11/1756 ).  Margaret married James Garnoch ( christened 15/11/1757 )  on the 18/8/1787.  James was the daughter of Ann Lessels.  I can only assume that  Ann Lessels and James Lessels were related.

There seems to be another family intermarriage as well.  Alexander Morison married Helen Garnoch on the 3/9/1830.  Helen is the daughter ( born 29/9/1798 ) of the James Garnoch mentioned in the previous paragraph.  This would mean Alexander and Helen were first cousins !  Furthermore, my chart shows that Helen had a younger brother named James Morison born on the 6/9/1800.  I assume his full name was James Morison Garnoch.

Alexander Morison also had a brother named James born on the 28/1/1793.  It seems the name James was very popular.  It occurs in 5 consecutive generations.

I see you have some details of Alice Rosa Whitcher.  the same tree also has some details of her descendants.  It seems that here only son died as a baby, so this branch of the name died.

This is all from a family tree which I obtained from Olive Morison.  I don't know which part of Scotland these people lived in.

I hope this is useful for you.  I have just started using RootsChat.com so I don't know many of its features.
Cheers, Bruce.

Hello Marp,

It seems you already know a bit about the sailor Andrew Morison who sailed with the General Grant.  I have a bit more about his family, from which I am descended.
He was the son of Alexander Morison and Helen Garnoch ( married on the 3/9/1830 ).  He was born in 1845, but I don't know where.

His brothers included Henry ( who went to New Zealand )  and John ( who I think became a minister at Auchtermuchty, where he is buried.  I think the church is closed ).  He had two older brothers: George ( born on 19/10/1831 I think ) and James, who was born on 6/1/1833 ).

James emigrated to Melbourne and married Elizabeth Young on the 31/12/1857.  They had several children including a son they named Andrew ( born 19/11/1865 ).  Presumably this child was named after his heroic uncle who died as a result of the shipwreck of the General Grant in the Auckland Isles.  This Andrew is my great grandfather.
Andrew and Elizabeth emigrated to Perth in West Australia but returned to Melbourne a few years later.
If you wish, I can tell you a bit more about the children of James and Elizabeth.  Let me know if you are interested.  I have all this information from Olive Morison who died at the beginning of the 21st Century.
Cheers,  Bruce.
