Hi, Another great thread I have just discovered thanks to all the contributors.

I am trying to find the headstone of my 3xGGF Denis Bryce buried at the Old Dalbeth Cemetery 28th Jan 1856. He died in a mining accident and I am trying to confirm who his spouse was. I have a Mary Ward but it would be good to confirm. Cheers Steve

Hi Steve,

There is no surviving headstone in Old Dalbeth section with the name Bryce on it sorry. - Gerry

Thanks for checking Gerry

1861 has:

Mrs Bryce 48 widow Ag Lab b. Co Tyrone, Ireland
John Bryce 28
Dinas Bryce 12
Cathrine Bryce 9

Address Gartloch Rd, Shettleston

I think Catherine's maiden name may have been Ward. Did you mean Catherine rather than Mary in your post above?

Monica

Thanks' Monica for your reply.
I have a copy of my 2xGGF Thomas Bryce (b1833, d1879) death record and his parents are named Denis Bryce (Farm Labourer) and Mary Ward I assume both from Ireland as Thomas was born in Ireland.
I also have a copy of Thomas's marriage record from 1861 and it confirms that both his parents Denis and Mary are deceased at that time. I took a punt on the death of Denis Bryce in 1856 although he died as a coal miner so doesn't make much sense given that Thomas records him as a Farmer!. This Denis Bryce death record doesn't record his wifes name just says married so this probably isn't him....
I also managed to find what I think is Thomas Bryce siblings and confirmed there parents are the same
Rose Ann b1840
Maurice b1841
Denis b 1841
John b 1843
Mary b 1844

It is possible that Denis and Mary Ward died in Ireland but I assume may have migrated to Scotland in the 1840's

Thanks again for you help
Regards
Steve
