Leicestershire / Re: John Parsons
« on: Tuesday 03 March 20 15:47 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you all, I think you have successfully found John. Many years ago I printed out a copy of John's
CWGC entry and posted on the church notice board requesting any information. None were forthcoming. Sutton Cheney church opens its doors daily and has many visitors from around the
world, the attraction being its connection with King Richard 111. If anyone can find out anymore
personal information on John I would like to re-post his commemorative information in the church
on the approach of Remembrance Day. I was once told that on this day the names of those
commemorated are read out at the service.

Leicestershire / John Parsons

In the church at Sutton Cheney, Leicestershire there is a memorial to John Parsons who
was killed in action. CWGC have very limited information. He was private 16819 of the 8th Bn
Leicestershire Regiment and he died 27th May 1918. On date of enlistment he resided in Sutton
Cheney however, there are no details of his age nor of his parents.
I wonder if anyone can trace him from this limited information?

Helen, Yes I am david's brother, sorry about the delay in replying. As you can see from my posts on this forum I started to do little research for carole but came to a full stop when I changed computer and all the data I had backed up would not work on windows 7. I think I gave carole what I had done especially on the female side, but seeing as you have found this site, are you going to do some research? Let me know if you want anything that I have found. Do you have extra info to carole? By the way if you look through my past posts you will see a  restored photo of David and my mother

                               Best wishes   Richard

The first genealogy programme that I can recall featured Gordon Honeycombe. This was on the BBC. I am sure there were several episodes and I also recall a drowning in a stream near to the church. I think Mr Honeycombe put his own interpretation on the events. Anyone else recall this series?

If you visit web site www.boulstridge.co.uk/genealogy and look for Sheepy Magna and then burials you will find all you ask for and more. There is a gravestone for your ancestors but as you say you are going to visit in the near future I will not spoil your discovery, unless of course you want me to.

Knowing that the Vikings were responsible for towns/villages ending in the letters ..by ie Rugby, can anyone tell me or how I can find out myself (without scouring the road atlas) which is the most southerly named town ending in ....by?
Thank you

Margaret, Thank you, his father's christian name on the marriage certificate is Joseph Jackson (deceased)occupation Insurance Inspector. I have just obtained from D A or A D Jackson's Seaman's Union Book his date of birth as April 1913. I am trying to trace the family for my sister- in- law in Australia who has this book but there are no other details in it that will help. She did add that from a hazy memory Donald had some siblings called Hilda, Bruce and Frank.
I think Arthur V Jackson is ruled out but I have made a note.
