I thought I'd post to say that my sister and I have set up a family Facebook group for Geraghty relatives (originating in Ballaghanea).  If you are connected to this family, make contact with me and we can confirm your connection and then add you to our group.

Hi
I have traced some information about Bessie Farrelly and some movements of John Geraghty (Miles’ son ) and Bessie Farrelly in the US.  Bessie arrived in the US in 1907, John and Bessie got married in Tampa Florida and then went to California where my Granny Bessie Geraghty was born (she married my Grandad Patrick Galligan).  I have been unable to find where Bessie Farrelly died (apparently in the US).  I have quite a bit of information written down now and I am happy to share it if you are interested.

Here is how I am related to Miles:
John Geraghty  and Biddy Farrelly - Miles Geraghty (Married Maggie Barry) - John Augustine Geraghty (Married Bessie Farrelly)  - Bessie Geraghty (Married Patrick Galligan) - James Francis Galligan (Married Jo Belgrave) - Kate (Me)

Along with the Geraghty/ Farrelly families I am trying to trace information about the above mentioned Patrick Galligan’s father (Philip Galligan who had his family in Knocktemple with Mary Conway from Drumheel).  I do know that the Geraghty/Farrelly/Conway families were intertwined so it is possible that the Galligan line in my family is connected too. Just putting it out there in case you know of any connection.

Thank you

Kate

Hi Ballaghanea

That is rather exciting that you live where Myles and Patrick lived prior to going to Australia.  Along with some others, we have been gradually filling up the family tree.  I would love to know where you fit into the tree.  Do you know much about the family tree?

I think because you are new on here, you need to communicate a few of times before being able to send direct messages.  I would be very keen to know more about how you fit into the family.

Thank you
Kate

I am keen to see if I can make contact with some of you as it seems
We have ancestors in common.  I think I have to post a few times before I can contact anyone individually.  I’ll add a few posts and see what happens!

Hi
I am excited to find a number of you who are related to Miles/Myles Geraghty.  My sister and I are researching Dad's side of the family.  Miles Aloysius Geraghty was our GG Grandfather.  His son, John Augustine Geraghty (born in Australia) was our G Grandfather.  John married Bessie Farrelly in Florida and had two children (Patrick b 1908 Florida and Bessie/Elizabeth b 1910 San Francisco).  We believe that Bessie (the mother) died either in the US or shortly after travelling to Glasgow (there is a record showing a mother and two children matching this family - presumably on the way to Ireland).  Dad always understood that John was in the army but we are yet to find records of this.
All the names discussed in these posts are familiar from our family tree!!  We would love to connect with others either from John's line or back  from Miles' line.
Thank you
Kate (New Zealand)
