dukewm,

It seems we have communicated previously, maybe two years ago on the All things Downing thread.  My Sharon Elizabeth descends from Stafford Downing of Drennan I believe.  After she and her husband arrived in America, they named one of their sons Stafford and this name continued to be used in the family for a while.  I never absolutely identified who her parents were but all the evidence points in this direction.

Thank you.   I have been doing Dilworth research for several years.  I've just begun the Colwell research.  My 4th great grandmother was Elizabeth Sharon Downing 1798-1882. I have done quite a lot of research on her and have concluded that she is not a descendant of Adam Downing (at least not direct). There evidently were two Downing families in Derry.  I would have to look back at my rootschat Downing communication to recall what I discovered.  She married Robert Henry from Loughgiel, Co. Tyrone in 1820. They immediately immigrated to America through South Carolina to Alabama and finally to Texas.

I have Downing relatives from Derry and now I'm researching the Colwell family.  I would like to know more about Colwell Downing.

I'm actually researching Capt. John H. Dilworth who immigrated from Ulster to Delaware, British America before the Revolution (ca. 1773-4).  He named one of his sons James Colwell Dilworth.  I am exploring the possibility that his use of Colwell as a middle name could be because his mother or grandmother was a Colwell.   Does anyone have any information on the Colwell family in Ulster for the 1700-1750 period?

Antrim / Re: Duffield family (Ballymagarry, Shankill) (18th Century - present)

I am new to this thread.  I am searching for a connection between my Henry family of Loughiel, Ballymena and the Duffield family of Ballymena.  I don't know if the Duffields were from Ballymena, the city, or if they were from the greater area.  The distance between the city of Ballymena and Loughiel is 15.9 miles.   The connection will have been made between 1727 and 1780.

Does anyone have information on a Christopher John Dilworth born abt. 1799 in or near Dungannon, County Tyrone.  He had a son Richard Dilworth born 7 May 1836 in Dunganon who immigrated to Canada due to the potato famin. He was found in Nelson, Ontario in 1861.

Antrim / Re: O'HARA FAMILY OF CREBILLY

I am new to this site.  My 5th great grandparents were James Henry (very likely from Loughgiel, Antrim) and Margo or Margaret O'Hara.  Margot was born in 1778 in or near Ballymena, Antrim. They were married very near 1800 +-.  They had several children among whom was Robert, Alexander, James, Margaret, and Hugh.   The family immigrated to South Carolina, USA in 1820. James passed away soon after arrival. Margot died in Chester, S.C. in 1833.

It is through this family, either Margot or James, that I am related by DNA to a woman in New Zealand.  We haven't found the exact connection.

Should anyone have any information on either the Henry or O'Hara families that they can share, I will be eternally grateful.

Maybe this will generate some interest:  I am trying to help a distant cousin who has a very interesting situation.  Both her father and mother were Dilworths.  We have successfully traced her perternal Dilworths to very early settelers of Pennsylvania (came as Quakers in the 1600's with William Penn) and on into Lancashire England.     Her maternal Dilworth family traces back to a Capt. John H Dilworth who fought with the British in the American Revolution.  The information we have on him is that he was born in abt. 1745 in Dublin.   He passed away in 1797 on Cumberland Island, Camden Co. Georgia.  He was married to Amarintha Woodland.

Can anyone connect this John H Dilworth with any of the Dilworths from County Antrim?
Cheers

Derry (Londonderry) / Re: DOWNING family of Castle Dawson & Bellaghy, 18th century

To Whomever:   In the quest that some of you have helped me with concerning Robert Henry and Elizabeth Sharon Downing I had not mentioned that in addition to tracing down this paper trail I have also been chasing a DNA trail.  It is through the Henry/Downing couple that this DNA trail weaves itself to a distant female cousin who lives in New Zealand.  Together, we share several common matches, both in the US and New Zealand, running through UK.  The following information is preliminary, but it appears that the sir name Scott might be a common ancestor that unites this NZ lady with me.  We share 46 CM of DNA Material.
I have seen that the name Scott is present in Derry in the mid to late 1800s but I haven't found any Scotts toward the end of the 18th century of in the Maghera Derry area or in the Loungheil, Antrim area.
Are any of you aware of any Scotts in these areas toward the end of the 18th centrury?

I'm new to this thread. Is anyone aware of a marriage (or other) relationship between the Scott family and either the Henry family or the Downing family of Maghera. I'm chasing a DNA trail that I know is associated with my 4th grandparents Robert Henry of Co. Antrim and Elizabeth Shsron Downing (Stafford Downing branch of Dreenan) of Maghera.
I have been working on this for years and only found the Scott family of Maghera today
