A little story about my husbands Redmond connection who were all in and around Oylegate.

He is 80 now but at a teen went to visit his mothers family near Enniscorthy, the Butlers.  During their holiday they spent time with the Redmond's on their strawberry farm and there saw the largest strawberries he has ever seen.  His Great Aunt Catherine Redmond nee Butler, born 1888 was a wizened old lady by that time and was prone to using her wooden walking stick to move the coals or turf around in the fire grate,  the walking stick was a shadow of its former self being about 18" long.

He was asked by one of his Redmond cousins if he would like to go on a bike ride to the beach which she said was just a couple of clicks away so he agreed,  He was given a very old bike to ride and off they went.  He rode for what seemed hours but his cousin wasn't phased at all and took the distance in her stride. The bike gave out half way back.

Best Wishes

Sandra C

I'm hoping life has improved their as he remembers his mother having a need to go to the toilet whereupon she was told to go and pick a spot out in the field.
