Gaffy, that is excellent, thank you. The Curragh barracks were linked to the 5th Batt as well so that might mean its the Depot he started out at.

And Dub1850, thank you. That is a great link. All my googling and I never found it. I'll be able to construct a bit of a narrative around his time in the army now.

Armed Forces / Irish Army Record - Can anyone help with the shorthand?

Hi,

Any input would be much appreciated. Trying to make sense of an army record, attached.

Record of a family member who served during the Emergency from 1941 to 45.
Some bits I can understand. He's in 5th Battalion

What is CTEM Depot? Central Something?
And whats P/ ACE?

But the one thats really driving me mad is what is an R O number?
And the numbers that follow RO numbers are surely orders of some sort? But how do I make sense of them?

Thanks for reading.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I did try the papers but had no joy. I know the inquest dates but there was nothing published on those dates or the week after.

Dublin / Inquest Records

Hi all,

I have the birth and death records for a relative who died as an infant in 1949. His death record states that two inquests were held as his cause of death was disputed.

My question is.... Is there any way to access old inquest records, are they archived somewhere? This was a Dublin coroner who gave evidence at the inquest.

Anything I've read online is about more recent inquests. Anyone have any experience dealing with access to older ones?

Many thanks

Hi Cyril,

I know the original post is a few years old. On the off chance you still have the Allen graveyard details, I would greatly appreciate a look. Fingers crossed,

Thanks
