Warwickshire / Re: Elizabeth Burberry and Amos Fellowes

I know I'm catching up rather late with this thread, but I wonder if it might be useful to look at name spellings.

My direct ancestor, Joseph Holland Burbery was a younger brother of Elizabeth Burbery, who according to the records I have managed to access, was a widow at the time of transportation. Her dead husband was Amos Fellows.

You might want to try searching with the different family name spellings (Burbery instead of Burberry and Fellows instead if Fellowes).

Not a definite fix, of course. People could sometimes be a bit careless with spellings. I have another ancestor who was transported to Tasmania. His name spelling had been changed (by him or by officials, I don't know) to Burbury by the time he reached Van Diemen's Land. All his descendants to this day use that spelling.

The contrast between Elizabeth's life and that of her brother Joseph is striking. She was a mais and seamstress and apparently also a petty thief. Joseph and his brother Samuel were rich and highly respected rearers of Longhorn cattle. Joseph and his son (also Joseph) amassed enough wealth to allow the following two generations to live lives of idle luxury before the money finally ran out.

What did Elizabeth do, that she should apparently have been abandoned by her family?

Good luck.
