Europe / Re: Hungary - Birth and Baptism records of Joseph Nyislow Nyida

Joseph naturalised in 1938,
https://central.bac-lac.gc.ca/.item/?id=1938-10-12_0861&op=pdf&app=naturalization19151936

He arrived on the Pennland in 1930:
https://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/microform-digitization/006003-119.01-e.php?PHPSESSID=2191jahiifv52mcdv7qmno7g3rpi40nuvd31vdl3mv38m863q7q0&sqn=335&q2=16&q3=974&tt=654

This record gives a place where he is from and where his father is living that might be "Kestoloz" (Kesztölc?).  His passport was issued in Esztergom.  He had a sister in Nova Scotia, Mrs Rosy Fasang? (Farsang in 1931 - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6R39-9SW9)

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9P6Z-SDT?i=42&cc=1452460&cat=1039037
 - here I think is his birth in Kesztölc.  He is entry 21.  His father's first name is Gál in this record.

Hi jorose,

Thank you for finding his birth record, it is really appreciated. I am only missing his baptism record which doesn't appear to be available on FamilySearch.

Best regards,

Martin

Familysearch has records of Legnago 1807, but unfortunately not online.
https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/419396?availability=Family%20History%20Library

You can only view these records in a FH-center or in a library that has the same access.

This Italian website has registers starting from 1871, so not from the desired time.

Hi Zefiro,

Thank you for the information. I will look in the records once I go to the library or the archives, but I don't think that it is what I am looking for. The link you posted is for vital records, so I might find his original death record, but I doubt they will mention his burial which would be a record made by a priest either at the hospital or in a church. I could be wrong, since I am not familiar with Italian records.

Best regards,

Martin Goyette

Hi Kloumann,

No I didn't. Thank you for the obituary.

This may not be true. IF her parents registered her birth at the U.S. Consulate or Embassy in Japan, or did so later in the U.S., then there would be a record. The registration may not have been done just after she was born- my three children were in primary school when there births were registered. I can't remember exactly what documentation I needed but I do know I had to bring their U.K. birth certificates, my marriage certificate and birth certificate as well as my U.S. Passport (at that time children could be put on a parent's passport) as well as their father's passport (which they were on), his birth certificate. Also, both parents had to appear at the consulate when we submitted the application.

Hi aghadowey,

Thank you for the information, I will ask her if she tried with the embassy and the consulate. I only know that the children were baptised in South Dakota, but I don't know if Joseph and Miyo were married in a church in Okinawa.

Best regards,

Martin

Unless you know the children are deceased you need to remove their names from your post.  Rootschat has a strict no living persons policy to protect peoples privacy

Hi CaroleW,

Andrew Joseph Gayette died in 1996. I removed their daughter's name, but she is the one who asked me if I could try to find her birth record. She tried to find it in the past, but wasn't able to. She told me that, since she wasn't born on a US military base, the US don't have the record.

Other Countries / Japan: Church and Vital Records of the Family of Joseph James Gayette
« on: Sunday 22 September 24 02:19 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone,

Could someone help me find some church and vital records of the family of Joseph James Gayette please? Joseph James Gayette is a WWII veteran from the US Merchant Marines who married Miyo Higa, a Japanese lady born in Peru, in Okinawa.

I am looking for:

- the marriage record of Joseph James Gayette, son of Joseph Goyette and Mary Chartrand, and Miyo Higa, daughter of Eiaso Higa and Chiyo Yoga, married between 1946 and 1948 in Okinawa. I am unsure of the date, I have found two dates which are January 17th 1946 and January 18th 1948.

- the birth record of Andrew Joseph Gayette, their son, born on March 21st 1954 in Okinawa.

For the church records, it would either be in a catholic or a protestant church if there are any.

Best regards,

Martin

Other Countries / Peru: Birth and Baptism record of Miyo Higa
« on: Sunday 22 September 24 01:28 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone,

Could someone help me find the birth record and the baptism record of Miyo Higa please? She was born on September 18th 1928 in Lima and she is the daughter of Eiaso Higa and Chiyo Yoga. I don't know if she was baptised or not, since she was Japanese and I don't know what was her religion was before she got married, but I would be interested in any other kind of record of religious initiation ritual (if she wasn't born a Christian and if it is possible to find).

Best regards,

Martin
