Hi,

At the moment with his various ages at different census times I will take anything into consideration, so will look into that one.  Thanks for your help.

Shropshire Lookup Requests / Richard Poole Dawley / Madeley / Malinslee

Hi,

I am looking for an exact year / date of birth for Richard Poole.  I can't seem to pin him down as his year of birth differs according to various census records, for example in the 1871 census he was 64 which would have made his year of birth 1807 in 1881 he was 76 which would make it 1805 and in 1891 he was 90 which would make his year of birth 1801.  The only information I can reasonably rely on is the 1841 census where he was living with his mother Ann, whose age was down as 70.

Any help grateful received with thanks.

Hi

Thanks MaxD, I know the marriage certificate for Eugenie marrying an Albert J Cairns is correct, due to fathers name on it and witness name on it.

I can only presume then that either:

a) the military information I have found is for a different Albert J Cairns, or
b) they divorced before he married again in 1912.

Thanks again everyone.  Will delve deeper.

For Ladyhawk

I am not sure if he married twice.  At the beginning of this week I received a marriage certificate I had ordered, which surprised me when I received it, as I expected Eugenie (Poole) to be married to a Rose, as on her fathers death certificate, she was in attendance and her name was E Rose.

Of course I was then assuming that for one reason or another that Eugenie had married twice.  It may be that they divorced, or that I have not got the correct medal roll card for Albert J Cairns.

I am not so sure now.  Will have to have a look if there is a divorce record when I get chance.

Hi All

I have recently been researching part of my family tree (Poole) who moved up to Durham in the mid to late 1800s.  The branch I have been following are that of James Poole (who would have been a great uncle), I have recently found a marriage between one of his daughters (Eugenie) and an Albert James Cairns.

Looking for Albert in the WWI records I have come across a Medal Roll index card which shows him (at least I think this is the Albert I am looking for), as being in both the Durham Light Infantry and the RAF.

I am hoping someone can break down the following for me please:

RAF/101 B 9
RFC/19 c

I am assuming he transferred from the Durham Light Infantry to the RFC (Royal Flying Corps) which then became the RAF.

So my question at this time is, was this a common thing to do and if so where can I find out more information about him and his time in the RFC/RAF and also his time in the Durham Light Infantry?

His service No. for the DLI is Private 4/24023
RAF - 300920

Thanks

AVM228 - you are indeed on the right lines, Maria did marry a Poole (Belatedly), she was my grandmother (who I never met).  Bill (Bill/William, may have been his correct first name) Johnson would have been his adopted name and he was my uncle.

As has been suggested, I will try to find his death reference.  although not sure when he passed away. Will trawl through the various years to find out.

Thanks everyone, very much appreciated.

Hi all

I am looking for help finding an adoption record for an uncle of mine.  His name as I knew it was Bill Johnson, his mother was a Maria Mason or Maria Mainwood.  He was born in or around the Dudley, Wolverhampton or surrounding area.  He was born C1927 give or take 4 years.  Well I have always assumed he was older than my father and my father was born in 1933.  My father and Bill's would have been different people.

Any trace or evidence for me to follow would be greatly received.  Thanks in advance

Hi

Yes, they lived in Bensham Crescent, Gateshead (still there??).  I can't remember if William C re-married, Charlotte would then have been his stepdaughter.  William's wife did die young, not sure of the circumstances at the moment, that is one area I want to have a look at.
