Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / St. Andrew, Eakring
« on: Tuesday 25 February 25 15:42 GMT (UK)  »
I have a burial for Elizabeth Rowe 17 Jun 1849, aged 76. St Andrew Eakring.

I can't find a death certificate on GRO to match name, year of death, age. I've tried opting for the other spelling variations and still no luck.

Will a request for a look up possibly give me any further information? I'm wanting to see if her husband was Thomas Rowe/Roe. In all honesty any additional piece of information would be useful.

Thank you in advance,

Sam

Cumberland / Penrith Workhouse

What records exist for Penrith Workhouse?

I still think it's the Isabella Stockdale that I'm looking for that's in there in 1871 Census.

I have her born in Penrith 10 Jan 1842 (I have the birth certificate) to William and Deborah Stockdale. Deborah dies 25 Nov 1842. I'm still exploring where William went. I have him as deceased on one of his son's marriage certificates in 1864.

1851 Census I have Isabella Stockdale(age 8 ) and her brother John Stockdale (age 10) 'pauper inmates' in the Penrith Workhouse.

1861 Census I have Isabella Stockdale (age 21) an 'inmate' in the workhouse, working as a farm servant.

1871 Census I have Isabella 'Stogdale' (age 27) 'pauper'. It doesn't give a job but if she were the same as the previous person she'd still be an agricultural labourer.

I can't find any marriage for her, I've explored every possible Isabella in Penrith in 1881 Census. I have purchased a few Isabella Stockdale deaths that might vaguelly fit (they weren't her), including those in areas where I have her married siblings.

I'm wondering if there will be any records for Penrith Workhouse that may enlighten me to when she left the workhouse and how/why? or in fact give me any informantion on her.

Hope this makes sense.

Oh and I'm not sure on the church. Jane herself was baptised in St. Andrews so I'm inclined to initially opt for that one.

I'm looking for the marriage so I can confirm her father and that she is the Jane Stockdale I've been looking for. My Jane had those parents you've mentioned.

In 1861 I have them in High Barton, Westmoreland with children William (7), John  (5) and Sarah Jane (2 months).

I have Jane as a servant in Hutton Soil, Penruddock, Cumberland in the 1851 census. I don't have Joseph but someone I have been chatting to who is researching Joseph's mother's line thinks he was raised by a relative. Their tree is private so I can't check on what they have. It hadn't really looked at where he was prior to 1861.

Hello,

I'm looking for a marriage for Jane Stockdale and Joseph Storey in 1852 (+-1) in Penrith if anyone is able to look this up in the parish records I'd really appreciate it.

I can't find it on GRO, I'm hoping it was overlooked/missed by them and it exists. I would like to know who is recorded as Jane's father and what his occupation was.

It's not the Joseph Story marriage in 1853. The bride in that marriage is Ann Knight.

Thank you in advance

Sam

Oh it seems I have those as Deborah's parents in my tree. It's William and the daughters that are causing me problems :S  ???

Thank you I will check the link for Deborah out. I never think to look on family search, partly because I don't like it and partly because it's never a place I think of looking. I wonder if they have the marriage.

Hello,

This family is giving me the biggest headache right now.

I've struggled to find a marriage for William Stockdale (abt. 1806) and Deborah Jackson(abt.1807-1842). I have 1832 in my tree for a marriage but I suspect I've accidently copied that over from someone else as I can't find where I got that from.

This would be a second marriage as his first wife, Mary Bell, is buried in 1828.

I also don't know where he goes beyond his wife's death. The youngest children are in the workhouse in 1851. According to the 1841 census he was a shoe (I assume maker).

I have found 5 children for them but I'm questioning if that last 2 are the same person.

Jane Stockdale (abt.1834 -?) I have her as a dairy maid in 1851 but I'm struggling after that.
William Stockdale (1837-1907) - I think I'm ok with him.
John Stockdale (1840-1916) - my 2xggf
Mary Stockdale (1842-?) - I have a baptism but no birth record. I have nothing on her other than the baptism.
Isabella Stockdale (1842-?) I have a birth certifictae but no baptism. There's nothing to suggest these 2 were twins nor does she have a middle name of Mary. With some help I think I have her on the 1871 census as Isabella 'Stogdall/Stogdale' still in the workhouse as the 1851 and 1861 census.

Any help with any of the above would be very much appreciated as I don't think headache tablets are going to help ;)

PS William anwers no to 'whether born in the same county' so I've no idea where he came from and certainly don't have a baptism for him or any idea of his parents.
