Bedfordshire / Re: Wards of Stagsden

The Cranfield baptism was John & Elizabeth - my mistake, sorry.
Thomas Ward was baptised June 20 1785.

The Wards seem to have been in Stagsden for a relatively short time. There is a burial of Samuel Ward in 1785. He left a will. There is also a will for Ann Ward, widow in 1786. I would guess that they were the parents of your Samuel and James.

There are adult baptisms for James Ward and William Ward on the same day in 1786. Unfortunately no parents are given. James's 1785 marriage to Eizabeth Abbot is in the marriage register, and the baptisms of ten children of theirs in the baptism register. There is also the baptism of  Thomas, son of Samuel & Catherine in 1785 (and the baptism of a child of John & Ann of Cranfield in 1783, which might be totally unrelated). Thomas was buried in 1810 aged 25. A John Ward was buried in 1812 aged 19 - presumably son of James as there is a suitable baptism.

Samuel seems to have died in 1819, but I don't know where he was buried. His will is at the PCC and can be seen on Ancestry. It is long and verbose and I only skimmed it. He mentions his wife Catherine, his brothers James and William and various Abbots, brothers of Catherine. Thomas, by now dead, was presumably the only child.

The Common Room / Re: ERROR: FreeBMD only contains entries between 1837 and 1899

I've copied this from a Facebook group; I assume it is correct.

-------------------------------------------------

If you have used FreeBMD in the last hour or so, you will have noticed that we have placed a temporary restriction on post-1900 records. This was in response to an unknown actor abusing the website search and accessing large amounts of data. Although we understand Death data to be the only information accessed, we have implemented this measure to avoid access to records of living people, as we cannot be sure how the data might be used. We have also put measures in place that prevent this person/group from accessing our data in this way, and we are working to strengthen these barriers further.
We are also exploring placing reCAPTCHA on the volunteer login, in order to further protect your personal data. To be clear: there is no evidence at all that any security breach/hacking has taken place or will take place, it is just the search that is being abused which is a direct breach of our T&Cs. However, we deem it prudent to do what we can to err on the side of caution while this situation exists.
I want to reassure you that this is a temporary measure, and we are working hard to restore full service. We are sorry for any inconvenience and remain grateful for all you do for FreeBMD. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me at denise.colbert@freeukgenealogy.org.uk if you have any questions or comments.
Best wishes,

I've seen this quite a lot in my study of Bedfordshire registers.

This annotation only occurs where Edward A. Downman performed the ceremony. I suspect that only he knew what it meant.

I've seen any number of these while doing my huge one-place study, and it is almost invariably the family home of one of the parties to the marriage.

Where did you get your information from?

I know that Ancestry is putting the Cambridgeshire records online before the end of the year, and are digitising Suffolk also, was hoping that Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire might be in the pipeline too.
Does Cambridgeshire include Huntingdonshire?

The most recent Bedfordshire Archives Annual Report says
Quote
Preliminary discussions were held with the three major online publishers of family history material over
a possible digitisation project and survey work was carried out by our conservator in relation to this.
It's very vague!

The Common Room / Re: Baptisms missing mother
« on: Sunday 06 August 23 11:35 BST (UK)  »
Another case is if the mother has died before the child is baptised. I've seen quite a few instances of this, although it is much more common to name the mother and note that she is dead (or ignore the fact).
