Armed Forces / Ignominy
« on: Saturday 19 July 25 20:07 BST (UK)  »
While researching an individual, I wondered where he was in 1911 - Prison! He was Winchester prison having been discharged from the army. Tuesday March 11th Police Gazette - discharged for misconduct
Lewis Alonzo N 783 1st Lancashire Fusiliers Ignominy date of discharge 02nd March Gosport.
On his service record there is just the note, in confinement tried by DCM and sentenced to 2 years  xxx?? HL and to be discharged from his majestys service with ignominy. 26 06 10, so whatever happened was in India - From 17 10 08 to 22 02 11. I wondered if anyone had a copy of the unit diary for 1st Lancs and were able to look up his offence

I have made a rough clip. Still a few days work left. More things to add, along with the transitions and narration. But it's coming.

Searched for Thomas Peagam and found numerous ads for the rent of his farm from 1876 onwards. There was one article in the North Devon Journal April 10th  1862 where he was fined 10s for assaulting an innkeeper.

I am starting to think that Sidney may actually have changed his name to Ernest. Ernest would have been the last male, the remainder were females. I have seen Change their name from James Thompson to James Martin, gradually adding a middle Name of Elijah after his nephew died then becoming James Elijah Thompson and when his mother died (Martin) becoming James Elijah Thompson Martin, then removing Elijah Thompson to become James Martin

Might Sidney have become Ernest P. Raymond?

Ernest P. Raymond is listed as brother of the groom in a wedding announcement for Frederick A. Raymond & Esther Davis in 1896 in Washington.  John P. Raymond also attended.   https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-post-intelligencer-marriage-of-raymo/176751502/

Ernest's marriage license seems to have his middle name as Peagam - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-99J7-77ZH?view=index&personArk=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AQPMT-16PG&action=view&cc=1534448&lang=en&groupId=

Naturalization records for Ernest - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-95XH-9SD9?view=fullText&keywords=Ernest%20P%2CRaymond&lang=en&groupId=

Ernest died in 1920.  death certificate - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-688S-YJG?i=1123&lang=en

death notice - https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-news-tribune/105652667/

Julia Carroll Riley is mentioned in his estate papers, as well as Fred Raymond, John Raymond, and J. H. Riley.  https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-post-intelligencer-marriage-of-raymo/176751502/
Nope Ernest was Sidneys brother. For Some reason they all changed their surnames to Raymond. It appears that most if not all Sidneys siblings emigrated. Canada, The states and Australia

When he married the name was spelled Pragram  (transcription) 31 October 1880  he was 24
Sarah Jane Lloyd was also 24.

They have  daughter Presswood Matilda "Pigham" 12 September 1881 born in the workhouse hospital.

A daughter Olive Evelina "Pigham" reg 1884 at Newport mother's maiden name Lloyd .

Is it because the workhouse register of  6 January 1883 describes her as the deserted wife of Sidney

that you believe he left in 1882 ? If so that would make Olive illegitimate.
-----------------------
John Peagham  17, Fred Peagham 18 and Julia Peagham 15, all went out together arriving 14 May 1888.
Do you have a link or reference for John and his Siblings entering the states ? Thanks

His surname was mispelt as Bigham, Pigham, Pragam, Pigden, Peahan etc. Yes he was in the states in 1882 and Olive is illegitimate. How do I upload file ? there is no option, it just says attachments, but no boxes. I have a document I created which is a timeline
