If you follow this link and scroll down there is chap called Paul Brewster who is an expert on BSAP. He helped me before with a chap whose medals I was researching. May not have full records but will have some info.

Thank you so much for all that information Forfarian. You are clearly a pro at searchng the Scottish records.
That gives me a wealth of info to work with. It's so sad that Mary never married and died so young.

Ayrshire / McAvoy and Cole family Kilmarnock 1940s

I'm trying to find any information on the following who lived in Kilmarnock in the 1940s
Thomas and Mary Cole who were living in Crosshouse in 1942. They had at least one son who died in ww2 called John b.1915. He was my grandads best friend in the 11th HAC.
Mary McAvoy who was living at 42 Richardland Road Kilmarnock in 1942. She was born 1916 and was engaged I believe  to John.
I'd love to know if John had any siblings and whether Mary ever married. Maybe someone remembers her in her old age or recalls the Cole family. I have a lot of letters and photos which would be interesting to share.

Hi Ourgang

I'm more than happy to share what I know about him and also have a copy of his service records. He was a prisoner of war in the Boer War. I'd love to know any information you have on him that is missing from what I have. I know almost nothing about him post 1920. If you could P.M me your email I will send through what I have.

Best wishes

Jim

Ireland / Re: James Doorley of Durrow County Laois

Thank you Queenie,

You are quite correct re the service records saying Durrow Tipperary. I was told by the chap who had done the original research on Doorley that there was no Durrow in Tipperary and its must be co. Laois.
Thanks for clearing that up and all the links you shared they will keep me busy. The one thing I'm really after is a death record which must be some time between 1824-48. Hopefully I'll track it down.

Thanks for the link to the Tythe. It's such a small area that I'm sure that must be some kind of relation.

Ireland / James Doorley of Durrow County Laois

I'm completely new to researching Irish records and would appreciate some assistance. I'm looking for any information on a chap named James Doorley. Everything I know him comes from his service records, but I'd love.to know about his life before and after the army.
He was born around 1790 in Durrow County Laois. He served in the peninsular wars and was finally discharged in 1824 and his record states he was going to Casltletown Bearhaven where his wife and four children lived.
That's all I know and have no idea where.to start, so any pointers would be appreciated.

The MOD are going through the process of transferring WW2 records to the national archive in London. If the records have been trnasfered then its a free FOI request rather than £30 and a death certificate.

P.s I have a quite a bit of info on Williams fathers military service including his service records, if you are interested.
