Also am I correct that Baj is close to Budapest? The name we were given was “Bay”, close to Budapest and a small farming town / village and Baj seemed to be the closest match to that

Thanks all, the timings would make sense as to why I can’t find anything then. We know abit about his life once he reached the UK, and yes the marriage in 1988 is him, but we’ve been told he had a large family in Hungary but don’t know any names sadly. Unfortunately no other names recorded on his death certificate

Thank you so much for your reply - his death certificate (from UK) states that his date of birth was 9th March 1932, and name Istvan Bertalan. We’re fairly sure he was married in Hungary, I would guess this would have been around 1950 ish

Europe / Looking for family records in Hungary

Hi all,
So the long road of ancestry and DNA has finally resulted in the name and date of birth of my paternal grandfather who came to England in approx 1956 from Baj in Hungary. However I can’t find any records related to him in Hungary or his immigration and entry to the UK. Anyone got any advice at all?
Thanks
Louise

Family History Beginners Board / Affiliation orders / bastardy bonds - help please!!
« on: Tuesday 29 November 22 17:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
So I’m quite new to this, and have hit a bit of a wall. A family member was adopted, and we have the birth mothers name but no record for the father. In the adoption records it states that an affiliation order had been submitted against the father and this is what I’m thinking may help me track him. My question is, how can I find the record of the affiliation order? The two geographical areas in question are Chelsea and Bristol, narrowed down to a 2 year gap, which unfortunately sits well within the 100 year rule. Both LMA and Bristol archives have said that they don’t have access to these. Anyone else have any ideas??! Any advice would be very gratefully received!
