Family History Beginners Board / Re: John Maginnis
« on: Monday 02 June 25 10:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi, Thanks for your reply. I haven't forgotten that I have posted similar in the past. I didn't get any further back that time so thought I would try again. As I said- I know the baptisms of John's children and their mother is listed as Catherine O' Rourke. I would like to find John's father and siblings to explore my Irish connection but cannot find resources. His mother is Sarah as she is listed on the 1851 census with him. I don't know when the family came over from Ireland to Manchester either. John's first 2 children are listed as from Tipperary and 3rd from County Down.

Seeking info on John Maginnis various spellings. He was born about 1803 County Down, married Catherine O' Rourke ( no date) and had children Eliza, Sarah ( both baptised in Ireland, 1832 and 1835) and Ann. In 1851 he was living with his family in Granby Row Manchester as a master shoemaker. His mother Sarah aged 77 is also at that address. I don't know how to proceed further back to find his father, mother's maiden name etc. Any help would be appreciated

Thank you. I intend to contact Manchester Police Museum and Archives. Apparently a friend remembers a photo of her grandad in the Wigan Specials Water Polo Team but which is now lost. Her Grandad was born 1894. Whether my Grandad is on that photo I don't know.

Hi, Seeking any information about James Thomas Houghton's time in Wigan Special Constabulary and a member of the water polo team. He was born in 1891 and died 1958. I don't know when he was in the Specials. He lived in Pemberton, Wigan.

Oh, goodness knows  ??? A pity there is no age. Of course the further back we go, I am less confident. Unless there are other cross references available then guess work becomes involved. Up to now I have only recorded members of my family tree where I am 99.9% certain.

Thank you looking up this information. Am just contemplating how likely it is that Richard was 12 years younger than Mary when he fathered her child...  ???
I have found Roger living with his sister Jane and 3 of her illegitimate children!

Thank you for your help. I have all this information on Richard Pincock. The question arose when he gave his father's name at his marriage, as Roger Thompson. With alot of research over a  long period of time I have established that Richard's parents were Roger Thompson and Mary Pincock. In order to proceed with more generations, I am seeking help in trying to discover Mary's parents and anything about her life and whereabouts. I have found Roger living with his sister on 1841 and 1851 Census. In 1838 Richard must have known of his father to give a name to the registrar. Still searching for any info regarding Roger's parents, possibly Thomas and Jane from Euxton, Lancs.
