Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: Affiliation Orders

Thanks for the reply Claire, I have looked on British Newspaper Archives but there aren't any papers for that year? Unfortunatley the Archives at Bradford (WYAS) are closed and are not responding to emails! So, research has come to a standstill for the time being. I also wanted to view the Baptism records for St Monica's in Manningham but of course they are held by WYAS too. Thanks anyway.

Hi,

Does anyone know if there are records of Affiliation orders for Bradford, West Yorkshire, 1918/1919?

If so, where would I find them. Tried WYAS with no luck!

Thanks

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Baptism
« on: Sunday 24 November 24 19:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I am looking for the Baptism record of Jack Bell, born 16 Dec 1918 @ 11Belle Vue, Manningham, Bradford, Yorkshire, a maternity home for unmarried Mothers, I believe this facility was known as St Monica's. Mother, Jessie Bell. Mothers were encouraged to have their babies baptised at St Mary Magdalene Church, Wood Lane, Manningham so I presume this is where Jack would have been baptised.

WYAS have baptism records for this church but the Bradford office is closed till 2025! Just wondered if anyone had a copy?

Many thanks.

Thanks Rosie, The person whose certificate this is was never adopted but since the Mother was single maybe the baby was earmarked for adoption?

Thank you David, Yes this is the same person, (family). I have an Ancestry account so will look at the Lanchester lead, it sounds interesting.  It is John Bell Borthwick who I am trying to trace. Could you possibly give me the link to the Gazette article, I can't find it and would like to read it. Many thanks, Mandy
